I can't imagine how crap that feels after you were looking for so long. Is there any work going round your way at all at the moment? I know it's not what you'd want maybe but certainly up here the supermarkets are all choking for staff and it'd be better than the awful Universal Credit even short term. It's about the only sector employing new people right now for obvious reasons. Did your work give you any kind of "when this is all over we'll ring you..." hope? There's not that much to look for where i am at the moment as its a small village, with a small town a short bus ride away. Since I'm on lockdown at my Mum's. Im signed up for UC now anyway, just got to wait for my phone appointment Yeah they did. They said i'd be front of the queue to reapply for my job, meaning they'd ring me and ask if i wanted it back lol Mmm, same thing's happened with me actually. The job hasn't gone anywhere, but there's no on-the-ground work to be had for the time being, so it's in stasis. On the upside, I got the phone call today and it's... more than what I was expecting, which was nice. The deficit won't be too bad. Fingers crossed that things return to normal sooner rather than later.

There's something quite lovely about being able to walk into a room and fall about laughing almost seconds later because everyone's having such a good time.

It was great for me being back at work and chatting to staff and customers. I was back in the flow of things again That wonderful feeling where it all just clicks together and feels like a warm overcoat. Ah, well... Like all things, this too will not be forever. My to-be-watched pile has gone from looming to simply leering at me, so I only have to jab it once or twice with a stick to make it behave itself. First time in ages, I'm back to reading Terry Pratchett and reading Dan Dare of all things for the first time ever. Dare from the 1980s with Pat Mills who did The Iron Legion and Song of the Megaptera. It's quite a thing.

Got my last paycheck for a while, half of what it would normally be. Applying for the new Paycheck Protection Program.

Made my day. Wee Anne from my team at work - not a WHo fan - posted the crying Wilf meme about a story. "I thought you didn't like Doctor Who" I said. "I don't", she replied. "Well, that's Bernard Cribbins from David Tennant's last episode".... "Is it? I thought it was Jeremy Corbyn".

Weekly routine at the moment: Odd you posting that after we've been chatting about Network! Have you got the limited edition Prisoner set they put out for the 50th? It's all done with the packaging in Village style which is what you reminded me of there of course - really, really nice edition. The packaging is a terrific novelty but even digging in the set has of course the episodes with a plethora of new extras and a new full length documentary under "Village Films", the entire soundtrack including outtakes and library tracks under "Village Recordings" which is 6CDs on it's own, and a big thick hardback by the always amazing Andrew Pixley with all sorts of new pics ("Village Books"). They're all done as slipcovers in case someone would rather have the more traditional packaging underneath. A real jewel in any fan's collection. They were practically giving it away in one of their sales. I think it was £30.

They were practically giving it away in one of their sales. I think it was £30. I have the standard Blu-Ray set, but have since bought in a couple of sales, the 50th anniversary Hardback and the CD sets shown which were a bargain. I also have the Andrew Pixley paperback which came with the initial DVD Network release (obtained individually), the earlier Carlton DVD box set, and the 25th Anniversary VHS box set (appalling sound and picture quality which meant that I had to keep off air recordings to actually watch). Bundle in a range of long out of print books and merchandise over the years, I have been reminded more than once by family that I do not need yet another set! I would have bought it if it were not for the fact that their Blu-Ray standard edition was so good. It is a lovely designed set though.

FedCon 2020 was postponed from May to July. This was inevitable and I had expected this. However, I still think it is very optimistic.
The prognosis for Germany at the moment (subject to change since this is a very new disease!) is that the disease wave in Germany will be over by end of July.
Sadly, this also made me lose 200 Euro today. I had booked a hotel for May, but since the hospitality sector is in dire straights, they cannot refund the money I have already paid for the booked room. Which is a bummer. However, I think the staff of the hotel and of the whole hospitality and convention/ entertainment sector is much worse off than me right now. So I cannot really be angry with them for being unable to refund. I could sue, but honestly, I think everybody has bigger worries right now.
So, while I hope that the convention will happen this year, I do not believe in it. Before we have a working vaccination, this is just playing Russian Roulette with the guests, stars and one's own health. I also do not believe that the situation in the US will have calmed down enough in July for US stars to be able to travel to the European Union. I hope I am wrong, but honestly, my professional training is telling me that it is not looking good. I also do not know how often the organizers can postpone an event like this. It will cost them a lot of money and time to re-organize and re-book the venues.
It might as well be that they will completely cancel the event.
Right now I am also unsure as to how the new convention date will work out with my job. Who knows? Right now, we are not even sure how to plan the next day, let alone the next months. And who knows how much work we will have after the immediate panic if over and we are in an economic recession.
In other news- due to stricter health and safety rules at work and to prevent people in the same office infecting each other, we are now taking alternating days off. This will use up our holiday days. This will also impact the work load for the person actually at the office, and less work will be done overall. This is due to the fact that our company is now at the absolute limit of how many home office places they are able to provide.
It sucks, but what can anyone do?
Also-
The risk group in my remote village appears to have a massive death wish. I just went shopping and there basically was a mass migration of old people to the supermarkets.
I have never seen so many old people in the supermarket. Hardly any parking space left.
I am furious.
I actually think they should all be lined up on the car park and get a royal kick in the butt free of charge.
At least the weather this week is absolutely gorgeous with warm, sunny, glorious sunshine. I will no go for a long walk in the fields and then enjoy the sun on my balcony, finishing up "At Childhood's End", narrated by Sophie Aldred.
Which has been fantastic so far.
One of the better Who books. And a wonderful book for Ace.
Keep safe everyone. I think I will take my camera on the walk and then share some pictures with you.

A bit of an odd one but I've really taken to some songs to keep me going in dark times and right now, it's Astonishing from Little Women youtu.be/2ZX8pKPm5LQ?list=WL1: Sutton Foster is a goddess 2: It's one of those super encouraging "screw the world I've got this" songs which I think we all might need right now.

Just came back from my walk.
Let me take you on a little virtual tour.
Spring greetings from my sunny little corner in Germany!
I personally think it is quite pretty there, with my village nestled in the river valley.
Back-country roads:
Our river:
There is not a single plane in the sky. Over Germany.
Warning sign at all the entrances of the park that everybody keep their distance from each other:
Housing of our sacred mineral spring, landmark of my village:
The sacred mineral spring, called the "Stahlbrunnen" (Steel spring) since it is one of the only iron springs in Germany. The water tastes very... iron-y.
Biergarten of the village restaurant, completely empty. It would be, under normal circumstances, be packed in wonderful weather like this!

There are reports that last night, Trump's band of thieves seized 3 million masks at the border bound for Ontario, and in an interview this morning, Premier Ford says there are only 1 week's worth PPE at Ontario hospitals and then they will be out.
I am shaking with rage.

I am shaking with rage. Quite. I'm not sure Canada, Germany and the other countries who have been targeted imagined "America First" meant being robbed by the US Government. They can prepare for a lot more trade being done with China when the world settles down.

They can prepare for a lot more trade being done with China when the world settles down. As the mood is right now in the media, it might as well be „America Alone“ when they are finally desperate enough to ask for help. The world might just run out of patience for the tantruming man-child in charge of one of the once leading nations and might only willing to come back to talk when there is a new, sensible and rational person in charge. It is also possible the US citizens run out of patience first.
