Been told can't go cousins funeral next week due to limited numbers, i couldn't visit him in hospital & now i can't say goodbye. I am sorry. This really sucks. It really frustrates me that it has to be like that and then there are too many people not caring about the rules, going wild and spreading the disease, making it even worse for everyone.
I had one of my dear colleagues die right at the beginning of the COVID outbreak and funerals were pretty much banished completely. We were not able to say good bye, it was basically just her parents who were allowed on the cemetery. Yeah not good time at the moment, his wife apologized & i said i understand, she grieving got 3 children support last thing needs me moaning about been excluded. I light a candle for him on the funeral day which might be at least 2-3 weeks yet.

Rubber bullets & water cannons! Oh dear. I know we are moving towards a fascist state here in the UK but thankfully we haven't got there yet. Also I think people are quite naïve when they talk about using rubber bullets, which should really be called baton rounds. I also see it critically. However. My brother's best friend is with the police and they tell stories... and the riots in Stuttgart were a major thing, hundreds of thousands of Euro in damage, injured policemen, demolished police cars... The situation was out of control.
Not that I favour rubber bullets, but a water cannon might not have gone wrong there.
This bewilders me because the standing agreement here with large-scale protests is that it's lodged and coordinated with the police. The police are there to protect the protesters and have honoured that on numerous occasions. That's the Peaceful Assembly Act, Section 5(1) in Queensland law. When it came to protest police brutality and the deaths of black lives in custody, there was trepidation that the situation would boil over... but, it didn't. No one was shot. No one was gassed. No one was beaten. No one hit with stun grenades. And the police shepherded everyone through the city streets as they'd done for other protests before. The fact that the protest was against brutality among law enforcement personnel didn't turn them against the protesters. 30,000 people gathered together, with the police to guard them, to mark over 400 people that died in police custody and it all proceeded without violence. Police and protesters both were making sure everyone had masks, disinfectant and whatever else was needed as well. (The protests continue to go on in the background.) It is possible to do it peacefully and that was emphasised by the Indiginous Australians coordinating the marches before they began.

They happened out of thin air in the middle of the night and left a trail of destruction in the city. The press called it „party people gone wild“. But I cannot beliefe that was the act of some random party people. This mystifies me even more. But Germany has a history of random riots, we even have something called Chaostage when certain elements of society will riot and destroy and beat up police. To this day I do not understand the reasons behind this. It is truly weird.

To this day I do not understand the reasons behind this. It is truly weird. Yeah, deeply weird. Also, strong coincidence. The other week I was having a conversation with a taxi driver and we somehow ended up on the subject of The Purge. A Hollywood film whose central idea is that a day is put aside where the populace are able to do whatever they want with impunty. No interference from the law over 24 hours. As a way of "getting it out of their system", I think is the justification offered. It's a classically science fiction idea, but we ended up turning over the why behind the day. Why people got so pent up that they had to go out and smash things. It's a theory, only a theory, but I think it's the crowd. If you've ever been in a situation like a music concert or anything with similar mass gatherings, there's this... phenomenon that occurs when enough people gather together. A gestalt mind takes hold, so to speak. The crowd gains its own sense of personality and people start responding to the crowd, rather than vice versa. This massive, ungainly thing. It's probably not a universal reason, there are other factors too, but I think that Crowd Mind may contribute to how things get so wildly out of control. It's the momentum of a mass of people, over the individual intent of the people themselves. That's what I think people mean when they say they get "swept up in the crowd."

Only explanation for the toilet paper craze this spring. And that crowd was not even physically together in one place, it was more like a global Gestalt entity. My village supermarket was without toilet paper for 3 weeks. Without any rational reason behind it.

It's just ticked over midnight here in Tassie and my uni results for this semester have *just* come out. I honestly didn't know how well/badly I'd done, so getting credits on both subjects has absolutely made my day (and it's technically only just started! ). Not sure how/if I'll celebrate come the morning, but for now I'm indescribably relieved that I got through both subjects. Tonight will probably be the best nights sleep I've had in ages Only two more units to go and (fingers crossed) I'll be graduating by the end of the year!

My son has his road test today. He's a good driver so I have no doubt that he will pass, but there's always a little anxiety. But it also means that my car insurance will go up!

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Submitted the applications to medical school a week ago and today I got the confirmation that two of the letters of recommendation have made it to their system so I'm only waiting on one (and he takes a loong time to do these things). I also got most of my books for next semester ready for only $115 from Amazon which is excellent. I'm just waiting on another class which I'm anticipating $30-50 at most.

Not made: Got an email today that a coworker of mine was shot and killed by a random shooter at a family bbq on 4th of July 😢 I didn’t know him too well but from what I got to know from talking to him he was a genuinely kind, gentle and generous person who did lots of volunteer work for the local community. I feel so bad for his family and that his life got cut so short😢 This is why I hate guns! R. I. P to him!💙💙
Made: On the bright side, I finished a super complex drawing of 12 and Clara holding hands while running away from a fiery explosion!😊I am super happy with how the details turned out! I honestly don’t know what I would do right now with everything going on in the world if I 1. Didn’t keep working on creative projects 2. Didn’t have Doctor Who It may sound silly but I honestly think these are the main reasons I have stayed sane this year! It’s the little things that keep me happy these days!

I just finished my next to last packet of Cafe Bronte Ginger Biscuits. My spouse used to bring them back for me when he passed through Heathrow on business trips. Obviously I won't be getting any more that way for quite a while. And a quick internet search turns up no one who ships them outside the UK. Shame. They're a nice little snack, two biscuits to a packet.

In other news, my food processor slipped out of my hands when I was trying to put it away. It's smashed and unusable now.

I will never understand the US and the obsession with guns. They are a danger to them selves and others more than anything else.
