So, for the past couple of days, I've been preoccupied with the here, there and everywheres of tutoring. We've been doing this for a fair amount of months now. Everything is self-directed by the students to ensure that they're getting the most out of their lessons. Among the contributions and topics discussed, we have ended up on the subject of... fanfiction. You would not believe the enthusiasm that erupted from the class when we started talking about fandoms and how to write in that space. They read it, they write it, they love it. I've never seen them respond so enthusiastically and unanimously all at once (and they're quite switched on, as is). Writers, if there's ever an impulse to think that the avenues of fanfic we're exploring aren't what readers want -- laugh. Laugh and laugh and laugh. The impulse to see it explored -- written, published and read -- is there in full force. (I've had a really good couple of days. Shhh... )

Rik Oh - Story Of Ricky is getting a 88 Films blu ray release 16th August, this film is what Mortal Kombat should have been because this film is batsh.t crazy, a martial art gorefest of entertainment.
This is Mortal Kombat in prison.

My boy's birthday today. The big 5. I was going to do 3 "cameo" videos from Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Lou Ferrigno (Hulk) - But we think he won't fully understand why Hulk is not green. Maybe next year !

White Power signs are a thing on GB News. Isn’t that the okay 👌 symbol though? It was reapproriated some years ago. Besides outside of underwater diving, I don’t think anyone used it the okay context much.

Im usually pretty defensive of the okay symbol as i feel the majority of people, especially those on the internet still see it as the okay symbol and so as a dog whistle its kind useless.
...that being said in the context of that clip they are deffo using it for the white power purpose which is, well yikes and then some. Good to see GBeebies are being classy :/

Isn’t that the okay 👌 symbol though? It was reapproriated some years ago. Besides outside of underwater diving, I don’t think anyone used it the okay context much. That depends how on old you are, and also (more importantly) how American. I think it was widely used by their wartime generation and later, I've seen it there but never here, so far as I can remember. Maybe it was a US air force/navy thing originally? People in very noisy environments used a lot of informal and formal "sign language".
But as Brits (of any generation) I think we'd give a quick 'thumbs-up' to say OK, well done, that's right, cheers mate! (There is some country/culture where thumbs-up is considered a very vulgar symbol but I can't remember where. No one anywhere I've been has objected to it so far, so that's good. )

Three hot days is a 'heatwave', anything below about -10° is 'Siberian', 1 cm of snow is the country 'blanketed', one stream doing its usual thing after heavy rain is a 'torrent'. Big hailstorm? - get ready for 'golf ball' sized hail reports. Strong wind? - expect the news to show a picture of some already half-decrepit building with a bit of something really strong (like polythene sheet) flapping violently...
It fills the 'column inches' and it's all good fun.
Isn't it hot today?

Isn't it hot today? Or my personal favourite. Whenever it snows, it being the worst flurry we’ve had since 1960/The Second World War/The War of the Roses/Beginning of Time etc...

"since records began!" (Which often turns out to be more recently than when I began, which rather undermines the effect imo. )

I had another writers group zoom today and they did another reading of my current creative project’s newest version and gave feedback. It went very well and they all said how even better this version was!
I think I was overthinking certain aspects of my script because I was asking the other members how certain character dynamics came across and if a character was too stereotypical of a certain character type and if it was realistic enough and one of the group members said that my script all a bit of madness I have created and not too worry so much about being realistic. I guess I do like writing things that are a bit mad and silly. I think I have the right balance for this script though.
I also got feedback about adding more sound effects which I agree but I will need to be careful what kinds as I don’t want to give away certain plot points before they happen and I don’t want to be too obvious about certain elements. I definitely want to keep certain things to the audiences’ imagination. It will need a very careful balance.
I got a lot of laughs again this time which is good. I had a lot of fun with wordplay with this project. There was one part that my writing group all thought was especially funny which I am happy about as it’s genuinely a bit ridiculous so I am glad it came across well.
Just a few more tweaks before I can submit it somewhere! I really hope it gets selected for this opportunity I am submitting it to in particular as it offers certain unique creative input to the winning writers on how their script is produced. I really hope mine gets picked as I think it could be really funny and interesting when it’s performed and I have a strong feeling it might get some unusual responses from those who listen to it. Fingers crossed 🤞
