Nice! My son's high school Physics teacher was named Adric. Adric Quakenbush. Best. Name. Ever. I taught two years back in KS4 (14-16), a girl named Romana. She will have been christened before the new series revival of interest, so its possible one of her parents was an old school fan. I never embarrassed her by asking of course. I asked Mr Quackenbush if his parents were Doctor Who fans. Of course they were!

Well, I was finally able to have that face-to-face conversation after the funeral. Just now, albeit by phone. My father, poor man, thought he was going to mess up my grandmother's eulogy. Hundreds of kilometres away, separated by the pandemic, I can say that was one of the moments I've been most proud of him. Just to be able to stand there, a sibling at either side, and say what needed to be said. To sum up a full breadth of his mother's life in less than half-an-hour. The quintessential essence of a human being.
Got me to thinking about how people are remembered after death. We human beings tend to shy away from the subject because it terrifies us. Frightens us right down to our core. That can petrify, on occassion, but she was very much of the school that you don't fuss, you do. Don't waste time aching. Live. Be a part of the world instead of sucking on sour lemons. "Is that how you really want to be remembered? Really?" she would have said (this was a woman who almost singlehandedly organised a trip to China). I can't think of a better remembrance, really. And you know what? I can actually be positive. Because she died only after giving one, last important lesson. Shut up and live, it's not forever.
So, today... Today is a good day. One to go out and live.

I guess it was a bit bizarre, but back around 1975, my Dad had a Volvo P1800 the same colour as the Simon Templar (Roger Moore) Car in The Saint. Yet he nicknamed it... Bessie - deliberately in honour of Jon Pertwee's Roadster of choice! He was into Doctor Who at the time way before me...

Bonus points for your father: The car was never named in the show, but I can absolutely see Simon calling it Bessie. Purely to flummox people (he's a bit of a trickster that Simon Templar). It's a good name.

I've been corresponding with timegirl over the past couple of days and asked if she wanted to pass anything along to the forum. "Tell the forum I’m okay. I just need a bit longer break. I miss them and I am sure I will be back after a while longer."I told her to look after her health and we'll see her when she gets back. She's been very pleased to finally get her writing up on the Wordsmiths website.

Have entered employment limbo...
Knew from the outset that this job, working at the region's (county's) mass vax clinics, wasn't going to last past September or October. So it wasn't a giant shock when, early last week, notice went out that the site that I usually (but not exclusively!) work at would be one of three closing down as they consolidate appointments into the four other locations, and that staff would be both redeployed and reassessed. The new schedule, for this and next week, was released on Thursday of last week...and I only had one shift scheduled, for today, at my usual site for its last day.
So as of right now, I am still employed (for how long?), with no shifts scheduled (but I have to keep checking the calendar every day to see if any have been added), and am still being paid for full time hours (again, for how long?).
Like I said, this has been visible on the horizon since my very first day at the job, so it's not shocking or anything. But it would be nice to be given some certainty one way or another, rather than just being left hanging like this.
