I've just read over on the Facebook page of Kaleidescope (the finding-missing-television people) that they've just acquired the soundtrack to a missing episode of "Callan" and plan to produce an animation to go with it - but only after they've done the same for an episode of "Adam Adamant Lives!".

Given that Network has already put out a special edition DVD with Callan networkonair.com/all-products/2289-callan-this-man-alone- which contained the following: • A Magnum for Schneider (new transfer)
• The Good Ones Are All Dead (new transfer)
• The Worst Soldier I Ever Saw (Complete Recording Block)There would appear to be limited outlets for the addition of this Audio recording. However, what would be the possibilities of it being offered in a future volume of the BF Callan releases? Talking Pictures TV is currently showing the Colour episodes (having just finished the remaining B/W episodes, for those who do not have the DVD's - recommended, although I got Callan: This Man Alone for £3.25 on a sale against the current £30 price tag, plus, the Andrew Pixley book for £3 against the current £12. Always worth keeping a lookout for their occasional clearance sales.

I guess any release might depend on what kind of animation is being produced i.e. whether the episode is being fully animated or not. StudioCanal released a recently recovered season one episode of The Avengers last year as a single episode set with some extras, so if the Callan episode was to be fully animated, I wonder whether Network might do something similar?

But did Talking Picture actually show all surviving black-and-white episodes, I was under the impression that there were a lot more and they were just skipped.

Of the 22 B/W episodes, 50% survive, 12, if you include the Armchair Theatre Pilot (remade as a film in 1974) and the episode which survived only as a recording block (The Worst Soldier I Ever Saw ) - Network has re-edited this to reconstruct the episode and will likely retain the rights to that presentation. It is likely that Talking pictures will have broadcast 10 episodes over two weeks, nightly. Of the recovered soundtrack, I was thinking of the possibility of it being released as an Audio by BF, with linking narration, lost episodes style, as a bonus. However, to my knowledge, Patrick Mower is the sole surviving regular cast member (James Cross, colour episodes). Nice to know that he is in good health and has been in Emmerdale for the past 18 years. Anthony Valentines (d2015) character from the B/W series, Toby Meres, was played by Peter Egan in the 1974 film, who is also still active, as is Peter Bowles, who played him in the Pilot. Thinking back now, the film was one of the first half a dozen purchases on DVD for myself, way back when. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Callan_episodesnetworkonair.com/all-products/1052-callan-the-monochrome-years

It's not shown on Wednesdays, so we must've got eight. They certainly skipped the last episode of series 2, which meant that the first episode of series 3 was a bit jarring.
