As someone who has yet to experience The Eighth Doctor Adventures beyond 'To The Death' I'm intrigued by the idea of 'Stranded' being a jumping on point for new (ish) listeners, so will be watching upcoming announcements with interest. That being said, if the Doctor and company are going to be stranded on Earth for a while I do have a bit of a wish list for what might be coming down the road - and topping it would be appearances by UNIT members old and new during the 50th anniversary year of UNIT's TV debut (and if Big Finish aren't thinking of ways of getting a certain Ruth Matheson and Charlie Sato into the mix during the 25th anniversary year of the TV movie then I am going to be soooooo disappointed). Lots of delicious possibilities where this series could go. Looking forward to finding out exactly where that will be. š While the curator wasn't on my wishlist at the time (not because I didn't want an appearance, I just assumed there was nothing more to be done with the character beyond the 50th Anniversary), yesterday's cover reveal has certainly piqued my interest. I'm curious to know what part the character has to play in 'Stranded'. Likewise Rebecca Root's and Clive Wood's characters - where do they fall within the plot? And Sgt Andy...ok, if I'm honest I'm not really that unduly concerned where Tom's character is placed within his sojourn from the Torchwood range. The comic potential of his inclusion is more than enough. Though I do wonder..if Andy is in London could a certain 1950's Torchwood agent be lurking in the wings? So as I said in December there are lots of delicious possibilities of where things can go. But...(there is always a 'but'..) while the cover is certainly eye catching like any good book it's just not quite enough yet to burden my debit / credit card with. A synopsis and/or trailer on the other hand.... Edit : Thanks to sherlock I now know there is a trailer..and having just listened to it I definitely need a synopsis before I scratch the itch.

A trailer? So there is...š¤¦āāļø.... Many thanks sherlock for pointing out what I completely overlooked. Are you on a sales commission with Big Finish by any chance? š

& of course this is going to create unnecessary plot holes. Now the Doctor met the Curator before Day of the Doctor? Completely unnecessary. I feel sorry for McGann, lumbered with these gimmicky boxsets. Got to say he doesn't sound 'lumbered' - the extras for the 'Ravenous' volumes were fun listens and of course the stories showed everyone on their usual top form.
'Gimmicky'? Well, there were a lot of characters old and new in the 'Ravenous' sets, true, but they all played their parts; the Vols 1&2 seemed more random in their stories than Vols 3&4, but on closer inspection only 3/16 were genuinely standalone from the main arc (I think) - and since I enjoyed all three of those as well - and one was a totally brilliant crime caper comedy, I have no complaints.
Except one:
{Spoiler} The Masters killed off the Eleven! Boooo! Splendid villain, all of him! (Mind you, I also like the Twelve so it's not all bad and hey we can always cross a few timelines to get him back now and then can't we ) I thought most of Ravenous was brilliant.
However, when looked at it rationally, quite a few things were indeed what a casual viewer would call "Gimmicky" and borderline "fan- w*nky".
But who in their right mind looks at this rationally?
Concerning that spoiler. {Spoiler} It was actually my wish that it would end like this and would have loved a little bit more torturing in that scene... the Eleven truly deserved it. I think when I first heard it I even let out a little cry of delight.

Without ever feeling the urge to explain why. Likewise gimmicks I suppose

Well, in all truth, you have yet to disappoint me with one of these "gimmicky" 8th Doctor stories. So far, I was blown away by each and everyone of them. So I have a lot of confidence that you will get it right.
Please don't be discouraged by the more grumpy voices on here. There are always some fan girls like me around who will go squee! over most things.... So if someone is not onboard with this idea they are grumpy? I haven't said anything negative about those who are looking forward to this. Why call those that aren't & just offering their opinions grumpy? I was joking with you donāt take offence a wee quote of Amy to Matt Smith .Purely a jest so accept my apology. I very much enjoy your comments

I find this such an odd choice, and possibly a very interesting one. No judgement here from me on whether they should or shouldn't do it. I have no idea, not my call to make. But it is odd. And I wasn't all that excited for this release when it was first announced, but now I am very curious in what they have put together here. This is a group of characters that seem so wildly out of place with each other. And is sure seems different than any other Eighth Doctor story before it!

*Sigh* Itāll be interesting to see where it goes and I donāt want to comment on something that I havenāt even heard yet....that being said, I just donāt think every single Easter egg needs to be explained or every plot hole filled, was there seriously no other character that couldāve fulfilled this role? Still, weāll see. I wonāt be pre ordering like I have with the others (I fell out of love with the box sets after Ravenous 1) but I look forward to hearing other peopleās thoughts The cover looks great though so thatās something. & of course this is going to create unnecessary plot holes. Now the Doctor met the Curator before Day of the Doctor? Completely unnecessary. I feel sorry for McGann, lumbered with these gimmicky boxsets. totally agree with you as I had the same concern about how to use the Curator properly. But I disagree with MCGann getting gimmicky sets I have totally enjoyed each set of sets and have not found them relying on gimmicks.Relistening to DOOM COALITION 2 and am enjoying even more this time.I think these sets have very much avoided FAN SQUEE moments and have created their own new myths and am seriously looking forward to these Stranded Stories I will even accept my hated Torchwood crossover hahah, just keep Jack and the rest out of it,although I know other fans would love that but no it would just create more and more reasons to come up with something to explain why they met before they met...

These things can be pleasing and satisfying. It is just when it goes overboard that it can drift off into other territory.
Which, I repeat myself, in your case it never has.

Honestly we have the same concerns as the fans. We know what the bad take on this would be just as much as the fanbase. So we give it a lot of thought! I loved the sets each and every one John all the way through and always get a feeling of EPIC when I go into each DOOM and Each Ravenous and Dark Eyes and am sure I will even get that feeling with the new sets and wether right or wrong the Curator is an interesting choice and I didnāt get a āsqueeā moment I thought mmmm how is that going to be used ? It wasnāt as if Tom and Paul hadnāt been in other things before with each other so it was more about the character of the Curator. So am onboard I havenāt been disappointed with anything so far and I know you and Matt totally respect this show and this Doctor and this TARDIS team. Just relistening to DOOM 2 and I just love Helen so interested in where she is going next, she is fast becoming my favourite down to earth companion.

I'll say, in terms of "gimmick" releases - the most grumpy I ever got about an announcement was seeing the Four Masters in Ravenous 4 so soon after their River appearance... and then that turned out to be the set I enjoyed the most out of the whole series (partly because it tied up continuity points I thought would never be addressed!)
So I've learned to take these things in stride and listen to the story. They usually work out in the end.

Interesting cover - it has a Torchwood/Countermeasures vibe to me, with the assorted ensemble cast. I think it will be refreshing to have McGanns 8th Doctor in a more grounded, fixed series of tales, without Daleks or big concepts & supervillains that involve a lot of shuttling around. Certainly he seems to remain the one incarnation with the most possibilities unencumbered by televised continuity, so I will look forward to learning more about it. That panorama of London mind you, it reminds me of The Mummy Returns:

Was already looking forward to this but now even more so. I wonder if the Doctor, Helen, and Liv will appear in every episode with the other characters coming and going or whether this series will be like Torchwood season 5 and 6 where not every member of the large ensemble cast appears in each episode. I also wonder if this cast is here to stay or if anyone is only in the first box and wonāt play a part in the ongoing story arc.

Cardiff seems pretty underused in the Whoniverse. Seriously though, one day they may make use of Edinburgh as in The Omega Factor for some Gothic Horror outside of mummerset.
