So would you recommend the Ultimate Adventure (for a Sixie fan)? I am just afraid of the amount of cheese. The Ultimate Adventure Is great fun! I am a big fan of Colin. But there is a certain limit of cheese (especially 80s cheese) I can bear.

Chimes of Midnight Holy Terror Jubilee Scherzo Yes, I know, just call me a Robert Shearman fan girl 😄 The One Doctor The Master Shadow of the Scorge The Scorchies (how can anyone not love this story?!😀) The Ultimate Adventure (for sheer cheesiness) The Marian Conspiracy Any story with Iris and Panda The Silver Turk I am the Master The Kingmaker The Queen of Time ( for out there weirdness) So would you recommend the Ultimate Adventure (for a Sixie fan)? I am just afraid of the amount of cheese. I’d only recommend it if you had a choice between it and literal silence. Its not absolutely awful but it’s way too long to be a fun novelty.

Going by my gut instinct.... I might go with your opinion. I think it might have been awesome seeing it on stage. But on audio... not sold.

I have never really been into 80s cheese, and I have been a kid back then and it kind of annoyed me even then (I know I am such a hypocrite. This is written by the same person who has now Sixie's coat hanging in pride of place in my bedroom....)

I will say, The Ultimate Adventure is far from the worst Big Finish I’ve heard. It just didn’t do anything for me. The songs were fun in a cheesy way. Who knows, you might get more out of it than I did.

My favourites of the main range tend to be a bit conventional. Spare Parts is heartbreaking, The Chimes of Midnight is brilliant, Scherzo, The Natural History of Fear and Caerdoria make the Divergent Universe arc worth it, the Klein Trilogy is a masterpiece, Aquitaine and The Peterloo Massacre are good stuff.

The Older Jamie Trilogy (or Quadrilogy. Depends on how you look at it) is perhaps in my opinion one of the best things Big Finish have ever done.

Or drunk.

All cheese is tasty. Embrace it 😀

I thought of my top 20 Main Range stories. Only Main Range, cause there will be too many if I add all Doctor Who at Big Finish
Seasons of Fear Spare Parts Jubilee ...And The Pirates Chimes of Midnight Creatures of Beauty Scherzo The Natural History of Fear The Kingmaker Urgent Calls (from I.D.) Son Of The Dragon A Thousand Tiny Wings A Death In The Family Protect and Survive Aquitane Peterloo Massacre Two Masters Time In Office Static Harry Houdini's War
There were a ton of close ones and it was sometimes hard to choose. Some runner's up were The Fires of Vulcan, Time Works, Equilibrium, The Settling, Eye of the Scorpion, Company of Friends, Warzone/Conversion and so many more. What surprises me the most is that Five has the most stories in this group. He is by far not my favorite Doctor on TV, but it seems he more than makes up for it on audio. I didn't even realize it.

I don't know if it's been grandfathered in from their televised years, but for the longest time, I've gravitated towards the Fifth Doctor for his standalone stories. There's a reliability there in the same way the Sixth Doctor tends more towards stuff like Brotherhood of the Daleks or Legend of the Cybermen, real powerhouses of familiar foes in unusual climes. The Seventh and Eighth Doctors, on the other hand, tended to have rather good arc driven storytelling with a real sense of unpredictability in that regard. That status quo is set to change, I think, with the new directions that each Doctor seems to be taking in the Main Range.

That is a very good point. I have never thought of it like that. In this regard I am really amazed that last year's 5th Doctor arc, the one with Marc, has taken me in as much as it did. The 5th Doctor just never excited me and I have less audios of him than of the others. But for the very first time, I am now looking forward to the continuation of the arc and it was one of the reasons I took another MR subscription. So if they are shaking something up, they are definitely doing something right.
However, I am not sure how much the change will affect this status quo, I think we still will get arcs and stand alone stories and anthologies. But who knows, as we do not even know yet what they are planning.

However, I am not sure how much the change will affect this status quo, I think we still will get arcs and stand alone stories and anthologies. But who knows, as we do not even know yet what they are planning. I think I can say why that might be. At least, going from what I look for. The First and Sixth Doctors have repeatedly drawn me in because a lot of their stories have dealt with the growth and imperfections of the character. There's a lot of firsts (no pun intended) for Hartnell's Doctor, including his journey towards becoming the Doctor and, at least, three companion deaths. The other, the Sixth Doctor, deals with the after-effects of three rather emotionally taxing events in his life (his regeneration, Peri's fate and the Valeyard) that dramatically reshape who he is. They have a lot of stories that affect them as people directly. The Fifth Doctor, on the other hand, tends to have arcs that focus on the people around him. The strife and woes of companions or friends. He's comparatively a rather static character. Reliably familiar. We don't really see a massive change in his personality after Earthshock, not really; Time-Flight gets in the way. The closest we get to something like that is the end of Resurrection of the Daleks, where his manner changes quite visibly for Planet of Fire (and the solo Turlough stories). He's a lot less trusting and there's a weariness there that wasn't present before. It's rare to see his own character at the crux of an arc as the trilogy made it. Analysing what we know and what we've assumed about Five and the little cracks that have appeared in his armour in the company of Marc and Tegan, in particular. It's really interesting. Yeah, it's difficult to say at this point. I've no idea where they could be going with this next. Rather exciting, actually.

Sticking solely to the MR, because otherwise I'd be sat here for the next hour mulling it over. In no specific order:
- Fanfare for the Common Men
- Aquitaine
- Master
- Circular Time
- Creatures of Beauty
- The Silver Turk
There appears to be a hint of a pattern in there...

I'm the one who thinks Moonflesh is really, really entertaining! Honestly! It's like Ghost-Light for the fifth Doctor. Honest! I've listened to it over half a dozen times. Seriously!!
Soft spots for Renaissance of the Daleks, Hollows of Time and Nekromanteia as well.

This is quite tough as there are so many. The one that I really like is 'Special Features' under Main Range 142 - The Demons Of Red Lodge & Other Stories. This is the 5th dr story that is a "DVD Commentary". So unique!
