Hello again.
Even with a modest collection of main range stories, I could compile a huge list of favourites.
My favourite Doctor in Big Finish has to be the Sixth Doctor. If I had to pick five of his main range stories they would be:
The Holy Terror because the world it creates is creepy and the final reveal really freaked me out.
Jubilee because of the totally different atmosphere and fascinating characters.
Doctor Who and the Pirates because beneath the fun and comedy there is a darker edge.
The Condemned because it brings the Sixth Doctor into a very different world than we saw on television and a companion that he does not entirely trust.
Masters of Earth because it is an extraordinary battle with the Doctor's oldest foes.
When I listened to my Fifth Doctor collection I had a whale of a time. A variety of tales with the Doctor in the TARDIS when I became a fan of Doctor Who as an impressionable child.
Eye of the Scorpion because I love the dynamic between the Doctor, Erimem and Peri. Their adventures together are usually excellent and this is no exception.
Spare Parts because the atmosphere is one of unrelenting doom. Cyberhorses,Nyssa really showing her potential as a companion and a great supporting cast.
Heroes of Sontar because it really made me laugh and I liked the characterisation of this particular platoon of Sontarans. Also one of a collection of Nyssa, Tegan and Turlough adventures I loved.
Butcher of Brisbane because it gives the regular cast something very different to do and is really grim.
Fanfare for the Common Men because it is a brilliant mix of music, adventure, time travel and the three Common Men are quite wonderful.
The Seventh Doctor has probably the most experimental stories in his collection.
Fires of Vulcan because it is a really effective straight historical with a great performance by the regular cast.
The Harvest because it introduces a great companion and has a creepy hospital setting where danger lurks.
Red because it is quite a sinister experimental story to listen to and features a great performances from Bonnnie Langford and Sandie Toksvig. While Doctor Seven is completely unrecognisable.
A Thousand Tiny Wings because it has a really creepy atmosphere, the wonderfully amoral Dr Klein and is the start of an interesting trilogy.
A Death in the Family because it features three great stories for Hex, Evelyn and Ace and the best villain to face the Doctor in
The Word Lord. I listened to it having only heard The Word Lord from the
45 short story collection which is a free download.
Paul McGann's Doctor featured in my first Big Finish story.
Storm Warning is a fantastic reintroduction to the Eighth Doctor, I really enjoyed it. Charley Pollard is memorable and a companion not from modern day Earth which makes a nice change. Vortisaurs!
Stones of Venice is a typically leftfield story from Paul Magrs and bowls along quite nicely.
Chimes of Midnight is a puzzlebox story with great sound design and was my introduction to Big Finish.
Seasons of Fear has a great opponent for the Doctor and Charlie and keeps your interest with its hops through time and space.
The Silver Turk because right from the off it grabs you with its macabre story and characters. Julie Cox's Mary Shelley is a fascinating companion for the Doctor.
Now those are my favourite main range Eighth Doctor. I really liked the Lucie stories many stories there which showcased the Eighth Doctor with a pre-Time War joie de vivre. I haven't listened to anything beyond Zagreus but hope to when finances permit.
