I got a chance to talk to Nick Briggs and Jason Haigh-Ellery at Chicago TARDIS this year and here are some tidbits that I got:
1.) I asked whether we'd ever see the Companion Chronicles back as a monthly range because there are so many great stories that you can tell in that format with more than just the first two Doctors. Jason admitted that it was poor sales that killed the range, despite early reports to the contrary, but he did say that we may definitely see something done that may shake the format of their box releases up a bit.
2.) I asked Nick on a panel on whether there were any plans for a Fourth Doctor E-Space season or box set. A lot of people in the crowd made affirmative noises and he noted that it seemed to be a crowd-pleasing idea. He said that there were no plans currently, but that he wouldn't say "no" to the idea. He did confirm that after the sixth season there would be another Leela season and that there are plans for what is coming after that, but nothing concrete.
3.) I also asked that since the narration is being dropped from the 3DA's if they'd be dropped from the Early Adventures as well. Nick seemed thoughtful about the idea and said that he'd consider it and didn't really give a reason why if he felt that it didn't work for one it does work for the other.
4.) Someone else asked Nick if there was any thought about doing an Early Adventure with the first Doctor, Ben, and Polly. Without hesitation he said "yes", so maybe we might see that in season 3 of the EDA's or season 5 at the latest I'd think.

It's a pity when you need to go to conventions (which you need time and money to get to, let alone the huge number of people present) to ask these questions and get answers. Once upon a time, we had this thing called a 'podcast' where Nick Briggs would answer people's questions.
Interesting to hear that the Companion Chronicles ended/lessened due to poor sales. There is a precedent for a highly popular product not selling enough with The Holy Terror (poor interest at the time is often cited for why Frobisher didn't make a return appearance).
I thought the point for the Early Adventures was that they were like the soundtrack recordings. The narration in the EAs reflected the linking narration used to supply visual context.

It's possible that the revival series recordings have been taking up their time, however, on the otherhand, it's been a big part of Big Finish's publicity for quite a bit of time and it's strange that there's been such a lull.

In the Big Finish panel I did one of the questions was a release/range that doesn't get a lot of love that you want to champion. I mentioned the companion chronicles.
At the time I thought it wasn't a good answer because maybe it was more popular than I thought. Now I am really glad I mentioned it.

David Richardson's always said it wasn't sales but a creative decision to end monthly CCs...BF aren't normally ashamed to mention when a range falters financially so I wonder why it's taken till now for this news to come out.

The CC's were David R's 1st creative input he's fiercely protective of them also of narration maybe he doesn't like to admit/submit to customer reticence, whereas Jason-H-E's watching the money coming in, going to global conventions and hearing "They're not buying this on a regular basis" or "Drop/reduce the narration (in Who Ranges good point Tony J), and we'll buy it".

I'm sad to hear that poor sales is the reason for The Companion Chronicles ending. I love this range, it's been such a great place to hear all manner of interesting stories and to make use of actors who we don't hear enough of. I was listening to Find and Replace the other day. It's a wonderful story but it would never be told outside of the Companion Chronicles format because The Doctor is hardly in it. I think Doctorless stories such as Dalek Empire and stories that focus on companions are a natural way of keeping the line fresh and also expanding the possibilities of the Doctor Who universe. I hope this range will continue someday.

I think it was stated by Big Finish at the time that customers were picking and choosing releases rather than subscribing to seasons of the Companion Chronicles. I know that was the case with me, simply becuase I have little interest in the first three Doctors which were the main focus of the range.
I have never heard a Companion Chronicle that I haven't enjoyed and would like some more. They have already brought the range back with Doctor specific box sets with the First Doctor I just hope they do the same with the other Doctors.

I'm terribly glad that the man has been enjoying the audio work.

I forgot one tidbit because it wasn't an answer to a question, just something that Jason offered after I mentioned that I liked the 3DA's. He said that they were currently in talks with John Levene to appear in the next box, so hopefully they can get over whatever ugliness happened when he did his Companion Chronicle.

That's a shame about the Companion Chronicles. Maybe they should try a linked trilogy again akin to The Beginning/The Dying Light/Luna Romana?

Though narration is a big feature of the Dorian range and reinstated for series 4 That coming back after the previous series was, IMO, a bit jarring. I was very happy that it was gone. Oddly though, now that I'm doing a chronological re-listen, it makes the series 4 episodes fit in with the old releases much better than if they'd stayed away from narration.

I am listening to series 3 now and I am so glad to hear it's back. I miss the narration it's one of the things that made the range unique for me because I loved getting in Dorian's head. He's a complex character and made more interesting when we can hear the story through his voice. And I do think there is s big difference between first person narration which Dorian is and the narration used in the 3rd Doctor Adventures (which I agree can be a bit jarring).
