I'm the opposite the Ep felt so much like window dressing while we wait for a dropped hammer of some kind next week. It was still good to very good though. Regards mark687 That's some rather expensive, high scale, massive stakes window dressing! I really don't think I can even begin to agree on that criticism. It's telling two stories consecutively but this never - once - felt like it was just fodder to get us to next week. It was thrilling adventure in it's own right. Yeah, it needs the context of next week to really assess it but it never felt like it was treading water. Agreed that context will be key definitely. Regards mark687

Hello again.
OK I think I need to see that again. So much going on. Too many questions that I really hope are addressed well in the finale. This has Thirteen in real trouble. I am getting serious Earthshock vibes and not in a good way. Is everyone going to survive?
I like Ashad, he reminds me of a CyberDavros. I like the way he is able to take the wind out of the Doctor's sails. He is a serious, implacable foe.
I am not going to say anymore as I need to see that again. This was a real spectacle. It reminded me of Star Wars or Blakes Seven. A desperate ragtag scrap of humanity fighting in this case an all powerful empire.
Questions, questions, questions and a week to wait for the answers. I hope it will be worth the wait.

Gold reference? I wanted glitter-guns! *sulk* Anybody else shout 'Sword of Orion' when Yaz and Graham's group boarded the huge, deserted, totallycompletelydesertedofcourseitisn't ship? One of the group even used to be a ship raider. Now I'm waiting for the kid who seems so suspiciously fast with cyber-technology to be revealed as an android soldier...

Hello again.
I enjoyed that but so much depends on episode 10. The direction was great, the action sequences were well-executed. I also enjoyed the scenes set in Ireland. I liked the fact we had an A and a B story and next time I suspect we shall see how they mesh together. Mr Chibnall has improved how he structures his stories, the confidence of the TARDIS crew suddenly evaporating as their technology is destroyed was a great touch. The Doctor has shown her teeth this series. The funny asides are still there, but that scene where she told her friends to get out was superb.
Ashad on second viewing is really creepy and unsettling. His confidence that he will prevail and the Cyber race will change all life into them is still frightening. The fact you can see his face really brings the comversion process to the fore every time you look at him.
This TARDIS crew are really up against it this time. I have a terrible feeling that this adventure will have lasting repurcussions for the fam. I am reminded of Earthshock, a youthful Doctor really on the backfoot, seperated from her companions and now she has another enemy to deal with.
This episode was more than setup it is hopefully half of an enthralling battle and this time the Doctor is without her TARDIS. This is when the Doctor is most dangerous, when there is nothing left to lose. I will see you all next week for the finale, as i am now actively avoiding spoilers!

Just to keep you from being too disappointed next week, my current worse case scenario is that those sons who joined the resistance the cyberium leader mentioned are actually Brendan's sons and they joined the IRA or something and the leader is Brendan. If it's not that, we're not getting the absolute worst second part!
On a more serious note about Brendan, did anybody else think that what was put on him was a chameleon arch? It looked like it to me.

As part one of two, this episode did everything you wanted it to. It raised stakes, left people in peril and posed some tantalizing questions. The worst thing I can say about it is that I wanted more of it.

That was the most frightening Cybermen have been....in I don't know how long. Terrific. Wish all Cybermen and Dalek stories could be that threatening.

So the Time Lords have been scooping up the human refugees being sent through and doing something horrible to them while keeping their minds occupied with false realities, that include a Brits stereotypical idea of Ireland?

I enjoyed it greatly but I really hope next week we are not going down the Time Lords were actually humans route.
I did not really understood what the lone cyberman was doing to the cyberWarriors to make them scream and all. He obviously did not do it to all of them either. Did I miss something?

That was quite the spectacle! Very intense and neck break pace! 😀 the cyber drones were intense if a bit unintentionally silly 💀😄 Lone Cyber man was intimidating! 13 had lot of good let’s get down to business moments! But I have to say what I was most perplexed and intrigued by is Brendan’s story 🤔 His last scene of him screaming in was one of the most genuinely disturbing moments of the Chibnall era so far!😱 someone mentioned it before but his scenes did feel very Life on Mars /Ashes to Ashes🤔😊 I am wondering if he is a similar case to Ruth? Perhaps we have multiple secret incarnations of the Doctor 🤔 I can’t wait for next week!😊

I did not really understood what the lone cyberman was doing to the cyberWarriors to make them scream and all. He obviously did not do it to all of them either. Did I miss something? Definitely not enough time to give the personal touch to all of them. I am glad the photo of Ryan really was a red herring of sorts. The good entrance at the end was impressive. I had thought that Chibnall was going to delay all of that stuff until the next series, but now we know there is much more in the second part. I've no idea what was going on with Brendan. I hope it makes sense.

Oh, another thing. Was the scene with Brendan falling down a cliff at the same location as the Broadchurch's beach? It seemed quite familiar

I’m reluctant to make any major judgements since this was only the first part, but it was pretty good, up until the last minute when they brought it back to the Chibnall Master Plan.
Also, was it ever explained why Ashad tortured one of the newer Cybermen?

"WHAT'S GOING ON MIND COMPLETELY BLOWN".
This has been one of the best seasons of Doctor Who in years, i genuinely get excited for Sunday nights to come around which if I'm honest haven't felt since David Tennant left.
This was amazing, Cybermen were terrifying & felt a major threat thanks to Chibnalls darker edgier approach & the Cyber Leader showing half a human face is a masterstroke as it shows the evil under the cybernetics.
Jodie was fantastic, if you'd said to me 2 years ago I'd accept a female Doctor & that she would be awesome & that I'd get goosebumps for Doctor Who on tv again I'd said you was deluded, never have i been so happy to be proven wrong.
Immortal Irish Policeman, Gallifrey, The Master's re-appearance, Creepy Cybermen, i can't wait for next weeks conclusion, please don't mess it up.
5/5.

Oh, another thing. Was the scene with Brendan falling down a cliff at the same location as the Broadchurch's beach? It seemed quite familiar That was right around the time that the Lone Cyberman was telling the Doctor that he was a volunteer for Cyber-conversion, so my assumption was that he’d already betrayed humanity at that point and was already the recipient of several Cyber-replacements. I don’t think this was confirmed in the episode, but it was the distinct impression I got from that dialogue happening in such close proximity to that scene. I’m reluctant to make any major judgements since this was only the first part, but it was pretty good, up until the last minute when they brought it back to the Chibnall Master Plan. Also, was it ever explained why Ashad tortured one of the newer Cybermen? Not that I remember. Again with the impressions rather than confirmed facts, but I figured he was making some kind of modification, but that the modification was so harsh/intense that the amount of pain overwhelmed the emotional inhibitors of the victim Cyberman.

Glad im not the only one who thought Sword of Orion lol So is this episode set after Nightmare in Silver? Nightmare in Silver was approximately a thousand years after the last Cyber-War, so this episode set at the very end of said War is before it.
