A Reddit post has popped up by someone claiming their “brother’s partner” works with Comic Con, claiming the Fourteenth Doctor will be revealed at the panel. As ever with Reddit rumours, almost certainly nonsense but there you are. Interesting but as you say probably nonsense, especially given the way Chibnall likes to limit leaks & spoilers getting out. I doubt he'd want to introduce the next doctor when Jodie's final(?) season & specials haven't even been given official transmission dates yet. Or maybe it is Jo Martin (my personal preference) & its a case of him saying you'll be seeing more of her in Doctor Who hinting at her being 14? Or it's someone who doesn't know Doctor Who that well thinking "new Doctor" means 14, rather than "the newest Doctor" (Jo Martin). (although put me down as liking the countertwist that JM is actually the next Doctor - partly cause I loved her performance and partly cause WHY WAS THE TARDIS A POLICE BOX)

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Doc Martin/ Doctor Ruth was very puzzled when she stepped out of it the next time it landed.

I really just hope we learn more about JM on TV so we don't end up with eight conflicting EU answers as to how she fits in...

Another anonymous Reddit leakerThis one claims to have a “BBC technician” in their family, who is apparently knowledgeable of plans for up to Series 16. Sure...

Oh Pre Recorded you know I'm wondering if the CT Rumor was true and Donna is Dan's Wife? I don't think its JM or SD that's too obvious Would they be so crass to confirm JW leaving and her replacement at the same time possibly? Known Past Doctor appearance (not sure that may indicate that Chibbers needed to back peddle fast on his choices and i can't see him ever admitting to that) Regards mark687

RTD gave her a good man, as Wilfred said, for a husband and The Doctor gave them the financial security with the lottery ticket. To see Donna lose that fairytale ending? No...

Its not my preference by any means just going on the filming rumor from a few months ago, plus the continuing Rumor of Dan having a connection with a past element of Who. Regards mark687

Also relegating Donna to just showing up as Dan’s wife is just… completely disrespectful to her character. And as much as I like the RTD era, I wish Chibnall wouldn’t keep trying to rehash it.

Oh Pre Recorded you know I'm wondering if the CT Rumor was true and Donna is Dan's Wife? One wonders whether this is just because their names are vaguely similar. www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8RulxpzLswNot sure why *that* would mean backpeddling. Making it turn out that the Fugitive is hte next Doctor after all would probably be backpeddling (although as everybody's pointed out, the evidence for the Timeless Child cobblers does not come from a satisfactory source). (I'd be very surprised to see an old Doctor before 2023. Dammit, hasn't Tennant worked enough in the last year? That being said, a series of past Doctor stories for the 60th Anniversary is a good idea... I had a dream a few years ago that this happened in 1983.)

When the Guardian suggests its time for a rest you know there's something going on behind the scenes as historically its one of shows strongest PR allies Regards mark687

I really wish people would stop writing articles like this sometimes! Just because one person doesn’t like an era doesn’t mean the whole show needs to be put to bed. Also there is no guarantee if it was taken off the air, you would get an RTD to start it up again.DW is a special unique show, not every era is perfect for everyone, but it’s always changing and I think it’s an important show for people of all walks of life. Long may it reign!

The problem I always have with articles like that is they always take for granted that once rested the show will inevitably return. The show’s return in 2005 was not a guarantee, and very much depended on RTD having the clout to pitch the idea and sympathetic ears in the BBC being willing to listen. I wouldn’t bet on such a combination happening again.
I do think the pertinent point is that the show’s format is tired. It’s not the 2000s anymore. Serialised storytelling across series is the big winner these days it seems (see Disney+’s shows, Line of Duty or His Dark Materials) so it’s odd Doctor Who still seems so resistant to trying it.

I had thought of sharing this as a thread on here, but didn't because to be honest: I just found it a really generic piece. It has the same problem as a lot of pieces like it do: I don't doubt the sincerity, but it doesn't offer meaningful solutions to whatever their take on 'the problem' is, beyond just 'but Marvel is doing it!' Yeah Mr Ballam, 'doing the same as everybody else' isn't what one normally thinks of as a way to renew/reinvigorate' a show.

I said elsewhere that some seem to imagine that if it gets canned this time, Netflix will step in and they'll get their dream showrunner, like it's that simple. Odds are, it ends up more with someone like Alex Kurtzmann than Bryan Fuller.
But I do think the serialization point is something to think about: in essence, it would be a super-charged version of a Classic Who serial, linked through all the episodes so it'd weirdly be going back to tradition. The downside is that one of NuWho strengths has been standout episodes that get to really play around, which a super-connected show doesn't always allow for. You wouldn't get a Blink or Demons or Midnight in a series structured more like LoD.
