aaand.... second jobs and small kids at kindie and school are an extra risk factor.
We also tried to get a segragation going to isolate people not of that risk group.
This also sadly means I cannot see my family and the kids as often as I like, just to protect my livelyhood.
This will get worse and pretty horrific as soon as Omikron becomes a Tsunami by the beginning of January. Bracing myself already.
We ain't seen nothing yet.
It was interesting when we had our 1st lockdown last year, as wife is a teacher she is classed as an essential service worker and me with my specialist field the same. We got our fancy letters confirming this authorised by the South Australian Government etc. Junior was allowed to go to child care last year, all non essential workers had to stay home with their children. Wife said her class was over 1/2 empty easily for those 2 weeks. We have a theory we are heading into lockdown again after Jan 1st. My home state hit 105 cases yesterday which is the biggest number we have ever had. And still the interstate borders remain open. GGRRR It does seem to be going off in Sth Australia at the moment. Knowing the place I suspect people will soon (if they haven’t already) be starting to freak out a bit, given the relative lack of COVID there so far. We are flying in to SA tomorrow to see family etc. Spent hours lining up for pre-travel tests, so at least you know that we are clean! all the best, stay safe and merry Xmas.

Story Time Continues..... Her name is Elise, after the classical composition (one of my favorites), though it quickly morphed to just, "Ella" (an accidental homage to another favorite), which is her most common and "proper" name, though there are many, many additional nicknames. Big Yellow Goofball Dog being the most apt. A predilection--and constant demand--for belly rubs gave us, for example, Elly-Belly, Ellabella, and Bell-Bell. And now Bell-Bell is an actual Bell. Or Bell-Bell-Bell, if you will (and I insist). So please check out her new duds: imgur.com/SPzXWLTThis is a dog who will not walk through a doorway unless it is all the way open (she's very delicate) and will leap up in terror if the slightest unexpected thing happens--like, say, there's a phone nearby that makes a very slight noise when a message arrives. So... she has not been doing well with the cone, forever bumping into things and whatnot. The ear infection produced hematomas on the flap, which the vet drained yesterday, hence the cone. The hope was that this would prevent further inflammation and remove the need the need for surgery. Unfortunately, today her ear has already swelled back up under the gauze, so she'll be going in for ear surgery tomorrow. The good news is (as I understand it) she won't need to war the cone after, so it's not all bad. All-in-all it's still much better than where we were last year at this time, when Ella somehow got ahold of some medicated skin cream (I guess it had be chucked into a bathroom cabinet, which was then left open briefly) -- in a metallic/foil tube. She ate the whole thing, metal included. So in winter 2020, in that odd span of time between Christmas and New Years, we had to rush this Big Dumb Yellow Dog to the hospital. Hopefully the aftermath of this ear surgery will involve considerably less vomit.Well, as a person who went to veterinary school.... that said ear surgery was one of the first surgeries we learned and practiced. And back then (nearly 20 years ago, I am getting old) we were told that this needs surgery. It very rarely clears up on it's own. Anyways, wishing you all the best and hope your baby gets better soon!

A patient called me this evening. I saw her on Monday, and she called to inform me that she tested positive this morning. She was asymptomatic when I saw her, we are both fully vaxxed and boostered and we both wore masks the entire time. I feel fine right now, so I hope that I don't test positive. In May I bought a box of 6 home rapid tests when I was preparing my trip to the UK. These tests are approved to be used to get back into the US. Since purchasing them I or my family have used 3. Harper used one last week when she had strep (to rule out Covid). These are guided tests, and you have to connect with a lab tech who takes you through the process, records your results and sends you the final email. Well, turns out all 3 tests that are left are expired. So I'm going to use one and it just won't be official. But at least I'll know. Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

So u know how we had everything under control.. up until 2-3 weeks ago NIL cases for months on end.. today just over 800 cases..
The Premier of South Australia (the Liberal Party- which I have been told is the equivalent of the Labour Party in UK)..
Literally is reducing testing to ease the 5-8hour lineups of people in their cars .. yet is letting interstate visitors just come on in untested..
WHAT THE F. iretruck..
ARGH.

On Christmas Eve I came into the living room to find my parents frantically trying to arrange a COVID test for themselves.
Now, you might wonder why they felt they had to do this. On Christmas Eve. I did, too, so I asked. This, ladies and gentlemen and everyone indeed, was a mistake.
They had sneezed.
More than once, I'm told.

In all seriousness... with Omikron, which now has adapted better to the new host and multiplies mainly in the upper airways ( and not so much in the lungs) this is a very sensible reaction. This is what we expect. Omikron will look much more like a Common cold especially in vaccinated people, it will be a bit less deadly, but that fact is outdone by its much higher infectiousness. Since the flu is barely hanging on with all the Covid measures, and Omikron being so infectious, our federal health advisers say, that if you get a cold this winter, chances are, it is Omikron. I myself did a test before traveling to my parents and brought a packet of tests here, just in case. I am of course aware that the whole situation is absolutely ridiculous. If someone had told me this only 2 years ago, I would have laughed out loud.

If someone had told me this only 2 years ago, I would have laughed out loud. Perhaps, but from what I've read it's one of the less frequent symptoms of the Omicron variant, and when they described it to me, it just sounded like normal sneezing. Specifically they sneezed, during perhaps two or three occasions, for 4-5 consecutive sneezes. Which is something I do all the time. And they had no other symptoms, so I wasn't terribly concerned. My father can be a bit of a hypochondriac, though in his case it's justified as he has hemophilia and was diagnosed as diabetic (type 1) around age 7, so he has to be careful. Regardless, they got tested on Monday and the results came back this morning--both negative.

CHAOS here now (By Aussie standards based on numbers since last Jan/Feb '20.)
Since the Governments foolish decision to open the borders about 1 month ago we went from NIL cases for months on end- to 1,471 today.
My workplace is now being temporarily decimated for a minimum of 1 month. Everyone that can work from home will do so.. As my area is just me (and to an extent my Manager) and I work in the Critical/Urgent area that has involved "saving lives" since last Jan/Feb '20, I am being sequestered to the ultra secured site that is a 5 minute drive from my house/30 min casual work from my house. I am now liasing with I.T. to get my 2 monitors/lil mini desktop and phone system transferred down to the building, I will take my Ipad with me that fits in my personal bag.
Fun times not
:-(

Our middle son just messaged us: he’s taken a home test and registered a positive result. He’s going to the clinic down the road from his house for a swab and we’re going to wait and see. I’m concerned for him and also for my parents whom he spent the day with on Saturday (they’re in their 80s). He’s fully vaxxed so I’m hoping there are going to be no complications for him.
