One little point of Flip continuity for the timeline experts to play with. In this story, Flip quotes Yoda at the Doctor 'do or not do' etc and says it's from 'some old film' that her fiance likes quoting!
Which is a good joke (oh these young people, what do they teach them today, hmmm? ), but then I remembered 'Stage Fright' in Sixie's 'Last Adventure', and there Flip says she liked Jar-Jar (well, someone has to I suppose... ) so she must have seen some of the franchise by then, surely enough to know of 'Empire' as more than 'some old film' at least. So that Flip must be later than this 'Vultriss' flip. But when exactly, I leave to more temporally-savvy brains than mine! I tell you something else She's just Married in Quicksilver! Temporal shenanigans at play or Writer miss-step? Regards mark687 I’m fairly sure she just says Jared and not fiancé. Likewise she’s always referred to as Flip Ramon in-story now instead of Jackson like how BF credits her. The Star Wars thing is annoying though because it’s not just Stage Fright where she’s shown to be a Star Wars fan so it’s bizarre that one thing that she’s suddenly acting like she doesn’t know what it is.

That's the gag though. In Stage Fright, Sixie is surprised that she knows Star Wars, and then she promptly shows that all she knows is Jar Jar. Having her be clueless about the OT is consistent.

Flip was scooped up again just after her marriage - what is it with the Doctor and weddings? Donna, Flip, Amy/Rory...
I still think the 'Star Wars' thing is odd - she's seen 'The Phantom Menace', Flip must know at least that Jared was quoting from an earlier film in the same series not just 'some old film'! But I liked the joke.

Finished this one today - first dip into the 2020 audios for me - a good example of a standard Doctor Who story with twists and turns and cliffhangers and sonic blaster sound effects. I found myself thinking that both queens seemed rather awful in the beginning so the fact that neither ended up in charge seemed appropriate! I think the Vultriss might make a good recurring alien race - I'd be interested to see how they develop as a space-faring species...
Also regarding the Doctor's trip in the TARDIS with Exazril - I do wonder if it really was just a few hours??

This was a good release... As ever, Baker is on top form and really engages with the script, which helps to drive the story. I am not sure it would have been anywhere near as good without Baker's enthusiasm.
The alien civilisation came across well here, with a unique culture that is developed well across the story. It is also good to see the Doctor stay for a while afterwards and not just slope off in the TARDIS at the end of everything.
I thought there might have been more with Constance and the events after Static if I'm honest. Perhaps I had my expectations a bit too high for this... I thought it was a good story, but nothing phenomenal at this stage.

Afraid this didn’t work for me. On the one hand I thought the ideas were great. And I like Flip and Constance as a team, even if they were split up a lot here. But the story dragged for me, and I kept wishing Ice Warriors weren’t in it. Not helped by the ubiquitousness of Nicholas Briggs’s voice in things like this. I was also too often thinking of how much I’d preferred another much shorter Big Finish set on an avian world, with Peter Davison’s “Circular Time” episode ...

A fine example of a classic Who story. Does exactly what it says on the tin and what more can any Dr Who fan want
5 / 5
