A Mighty Shame that we arent getting another Roberts Master vs Paul's Doctor but then agian it means i get to save $40 If it’s any consolation, I’d imagine Big Finish would be keen to have him face off against a previous incarnation of the Doctor at some point. If anything would love to see Roberts against Eccleston as it would be a Heroes Reunion

Drefyus- Twitter would go into Meltdown if that ever got announced (please do it Big Finish it would be hilarious) but yeah unlikely to ever happen despite The First Master Adventures having a nice ring to it. But yeah it stems with the problem that TV Audiences wouldn't recognize him and thus you haven't got that particular audience which works against it. Casting a transphobe who spreads TERF ideology wouldn't be "hilarious". Sasha- Im Sure Big Finish could try to salvage his Master as best as they could and given Sasha actual material.
Doesn't need salvaging.

Doesn't need salvaging. Considering that he was basically a John Simm 2.0 Master
Big Finish could do great things with Sasha especially given that he has done work for big finish before and was decent in the roles

Based on the comments I've read, I think Sacha Dhawan's performance was pretty universally-praised. Most (all?) of the problems people had with the character came from the scripts, which is a separate issue.
In terms of Roberts being a "well-known name," well, maybe in Hollywood--but perhaps not so much elsewhere.

Loved this box set, Eric Roberts finally gets his moment to shine & does so magnificently as The Master.
His confrontation with the Daleks was well written & i hope we have more adventures to come with this incarnation.
5/5

With this box set, Roberts went from the Master I enjoy because he's a hilarious over the top villain, to one of my favorites because even when he's trying to be charming, you can sense he's going to brutally and ruthlessly murder you, which makes him one of the most unique incarnations. Probably my favorite Master box set with The Master of Callous/Anti-Genesis.

Call me one of the converted. Eric Roberts' verged on the genius in this. Just the right side of camp, menacing and believable. The supporting cast were superb and despite it not being quite making the greatness the opening episode promised, it was thoroughly entertaining throughout. I wish they'd gotten Roberts to read the TV Movie audiobook now.

My take on Master! has landed at CultBox: in short, lots of great ideas and Roberts is fab - well matched against Vienna. Wish there had been more time to explore this world. Oh, and Laura Aikman's Lila Krieg is brilliant too.

For anyone who has heard this release, but hadn’t heard any Vienna Salvatore beforehand, was her appearance in this set okay? Did you feel it was an attempt to cross-sell? Has it made you want to hear anything more of Vienna, or left you indifferent? And for the Vienna veterans, did this tick the boxes for you or not? Is there more Vienna needed? Did it do the character justice? Personally, I enjoyed hearing Chase perform Vienna again and I think there’s still lots of mileage in the character. I felt that it didn’t really do the character full justice, but it was fine in the context of being a supporting role to let the Master have the limelight. I am kinda in the middle. I listened to the memory box before this and i really enjoyed her there and here as well. Having only seen two instances i didn’t feel confused i was fine and i didn’t feel like it was marketing really, well excluding the mere existence of her in this set being a cross promotion if you want to look at it that way. Excited to listen to all four seasons and providing i enjoy them, many more in the future.

Having said that, I really enjoyed the Vienna sets and hope you get enjoyment from them in the future 👍😃 Definitely, the memory box was a complete blast. I think in part what makes it seem especially not Gimicky is because Chase and roberts feel like they belong in the same world they really complement each other the actors and the chaarcters. Its not as out there as say sylvia nobel and lady Christina (even if odd pairings still work)

I am a Vienna fan and think so much mileage in the character this was definitely Eric’s set though and have to say I enjoyed having more American vocals and hope to see them rematch against each other in the future.I was wary of this set but it far surpassed my expectations when you listen to the first story the set up world build is so well done that the rest just gels together as a whole and I don’t feel it was a sell for Vienna at all (not like using Cicero in Doctor Who which to me smacked of sell sell). This is a set that I have listened to more than a few times now and more than paid for itself in listening enjoyment

Enjoying Prey, my introduction to Vienna. (Strange to think that's Leeta the dabo girl... ) Just one minor quibble - switching distance measurements from metres to miles and feet part way through. A tad strange? But like I said, minor.

And finished Vengeance. What a great story. (In my minds eye, Lila's cat has long white hair... )

I threw on episode 1 of this late last night, fully intending to just do the one and then finish off the rest this morning.
Wow, no. I ended up listening to all three hours in one block. What a terrific set. Eric Roberts is terrific. I'm going to be irritated if we don't get a second volume.

So, for the Discussion Thread Index, I've decided to list masters by actor and nickname. E.G. "The Beevers Master / The Crispy Master." Well, for now, at least.
I'm open for suggestions for the Parker and Dreyfus Masters. Currently thinking of, "The Young Master," and, "The Problematic Master," respectively. Thought about, "The Transphobe Master" but then we wouldn't have parity with the Problematic (misogynist?) Doctor.
Or I could ignore the broader cultural context, but then not ever Master would have a nickname and the whole organizational scheme would collapse.
Anyway.
I'm fairly sure there was a more-or-less recognizable nickname for the Roberts Master in the fandom, but for the life of me I can't remember what it was. Was this a thing? Something to do with snakes, or vestiges, or something like that?

Something to do with snakes, or vestiges, or something like that? I remember post-DWM discussions after the movieit tended to just be "The Roberts Master" or sometimes "The Bruce Master". For Dreyfus, how about the "Supposed to be the First Master, then he wasn't according to some, even though we've not been specifically told that he wasn't in-universe but hey, he's not coming back anyway so what does it matter....Master"? Catchy! Or "The REALLY-Would-Have-A-Problem-Becoming-Missy-One-Day Master" Sarcasm aside, he's such a rehashed, dull version that offered nothing new that there's really nothing to latch onto. Even Peter Pratt can be "Crispy.0" or "Ping Pong Ball Eyes Master" . "First" was all that made Dreyfus remotely interesting..well...noteworthy as he was jut "Generic Master". So I'd go with "First Master" if you're being nice. Though he'd be "Generic Master" in my list!

Well, I named them Junior, Crispy, Bruce (the human that the essence occupied in the movie), Baldy (McQueen), Tremas, (Professor) Yana, Saxon and Unbound. You're welcome to copy me, I won't sue...

Doctor.I feel like that's being unnecessarily provocative/combative/trolly; all it'll accomplish is satisfied head-nods from some, and arguments from others. Much better to keep descriptors related to something in-universe, you've already got an out-of-universe descriptor if you're including the actor's name.
