What a lovely surprise; I was expecting the Tenth Doctor Adventures Volume 4! It’s fanjodrelly with a interesting sounding concept behind it that’s paving its way into two more releases. I wonder if this has been a quickly put together lockdown project, or has always been on the horizon?
For the other pairings, I think it’ll be 7&8 and 5&6.

The second and third volumes don't even have confirmed release dates (or even placeholder images), which I can't recall seeing for any other newly announced release, so my guess is that it was at least moved forward in development/recording schedule when lockdown came in.

I know it won't (can't?) happen, but I would love to see the War doctor meet the darker and more manipulative version of the Seventh. I could see maybe War being down on himself for doing what he has to and Seven offers sympathy and and understanding, leaving War feeling better about some choices.
On a related note, is War completely forbidden to use or only not allowed as the main character?

I thought they'd just ended the range because of John Hurt's passing, and hadn't done a younger version of him yet out of respect / letting some time elapse before considering it.

This is BF, of course we haven't seen the end of the War Doctor.

Four, (proper) Ten and Daleks? What is there not to like? This Out of Time release does sound exciting! Count me in.

The mention of the placement for both Doctors in this is interesting. I hope that plays into the story; a Doctor that’s just had an encounter with the Master and one that’s actively avoiding one.

didn't the recent "home studio" photo of Peter Davison have a script that had his lines listed as "Fifth Doctor"?
EDIT: Sorry - I somehow missed that Whovitt said the exact same thing!
And wasn't there a suggestion 5 was going to appear in the 10/River box set? What if this trilogy IS that box set?
Of course, this is just a cynical plot to make us get enthusiastic for box sets after the end-of-MR announcement. Well, it may work.

Oh, I've just had a thought! What if this series is where we finally get a story with David Warner and a prime Doctor?

I'm actually surprised that it hasn't happened already. I'm not even sure in this scenario that casting an actor 30 or 40 years younger than we've ever seen the character even meets the definition of "recasting," so I'd have thought it's something that would already have been underway on by now. The closest we got to a young War Doctor in any medium was a half-second reflection in Night of the Doctor, and from there we went straight to present-day John Hurt.

Now these were some awesome news to come home to! Although I am not the biggest fan of either 4 and 10, I like the idea. So of course it was a no brainer to get this. And I agree, having Colin going up against Bradley would be too good to overlook. That would also be my favorite pairing come to think of it. I am just curious how they would play off against each other. Not sure I would want 11 against Sixie... as much as I like both, that could become slightly annoying if done wrong. This announcement might also explain what Peter Davison was recording in his cupboard- there were some theories thrown about in the obscure news thread. Someone had magnified the script and saw that there were two Doctors involved- Peter and ? ? ? plus the possibility of River. I remain curious.

We don't know that there's a "10/River box set" at all. We do know that David Tennant and Alex Kingston have recorded a story together. It states in the news article that each Out of Time story features a different Doctor pair-up, so I think whatever the 10/River thing is it's totally separate.

What a great surprise! Just pre-ordered the bundle. Ten and Four are always instant pre-orders for me, and hearing them interact is certain to be great fun.

It certainly seems that Big Finish’s reticence to do recasting has shifted a little bit the past year or so, so that it hasn’t happened yet doesn’t really surprise me. Add into that having the 8th Doctor transition into the Time War, as well as having the War Master and Gallifrey series dealing with the conflict, I don’t see a reason why they would need to also have a younger, recast War Doctor series running. As Big Finish moves forward, and especially if their licence is renewed, I would think War Doctor audios are a eventuality.

That's very true too, no need to rush into it when you've got lots going on in the era already.
