Curious question, in regards to the cd with The Master in it, is it standalone, or is the whole set a arc?

The whole set is an arc.
It’s also follow up on the arc in UNIT: Encounters. All you need to know going in is UNIT have been investigating a group called the Auctioneers, led by a mysterious Overseer, who experiment with and sell alien technology on the black market.

You know, now that you mention it, I actually do rather like Attack of the Cybermen ...

UNIT 6 also leads into UNIT 7, the Master leaves UNIT a parting gift that triggers the events of the first story of UNIT 7.
That's not a really a spoiler, it's not connected in any way to the story of UNIT 6

I think if you're wanting the set purely for The War Master, you'll be disappointed. He's only in the final episode and is completely unnecessary to events; the role could've been given to any one of the other cast members with a couple of minor tweaks. The only thing he does that seems really necessary is off screen and that is leaving his parting gift that leads into UNIT Revisitations. His appearance doesn't link to anything else he's been in either.
And I'm not sure it's worth buying the set at all. I thought the first two episodes were intruiging, helped by a smaller cast and shorter running times, but it all becomes throwaway as the concepts and ideas don't go anywhere. The Cybermen do nothing. Not only are they not the Cybermen on the cover, but the set is also clearly pre-Dark Water, so it isn't even the "round two" that I remember the press release promising.
Obviously your mileage may vary, and the above is just my personal opinion.

My hope was that the story featuring The Master was decently stand alone, and I could sell/trade off the other 3 stories and just keep the single story for completion reasons. That said, if it's necessary to listen to all the stories to enjoy the single one I'd keep the whole set.

I went into it “blind” (in fact, I even skipped the first two stories of the set in order to just do “code silver” and “master of worlds”) and beyond a in media res open (basically, it starts with UNIT compromised and Osgood SPOILERED) everything you needed to understand the story was within the story. The Auctioneers was a bit “odd” but was still explained within the fiction courtesy of Kate telling the Master what was the deal with the Auctioneers.

That said, if it's necessary to listen to all the stories to enjoy the single one I'd keep the whole set. In that case, you could listen to the last two episodes of the set. The ideas and concepts in the first two aren’t built upon, but I’d say you need to listen to Code Silver before Master of Worlds as they form a two parter of sorts. As @sir Wearer of Hats says, the Auctioneer stuff is explained in-universe, which gives you your explanation. I’m not sure you’d get any luck selling or trading 6.1 & 6.2, though. You might as well just buy and listen to the whole set or not bother and know you’re not missing a great deal.
