It's been years since I watched the full episode so the wider context may be lost on me, but I just rewatched that infamous 'looks in the mirror' scene from Rose, and it doesn't seem to me that the Doctor has come straight from the time war: Eccleston delivers the line in a cheery self deprecating manner, the Doctor acts pretty sure of himself and his body, and coupled with the other things he is doing in this scene it seems to me more than anything just an easter egg for fans that yes, he had once had other faces/RTD was just adding some zany character humour to the scene (perhaps the card trick failing was a reference to the 9th Doctor not being as good at sleight of hand as the 8th). Or perhaps the Doctor was just poking fun at his own appearance/properly noticing how big his ears were after having a recent haircut? The photo of the Doctor on his UNIT I.D badge shows him looking younger with longer hair (I think it was a stock photo taken from a previous role Eccleston had played): imgur.com/2lzaxwjIn the Day Of the Doctor novelisation, Moffat adds a quick reference to the Doctor smashing all the mirrors in the tardis just after regeneration from the War Doctor because he couldn't stand to look himself in the face knowing what he had just done...however when we get to Rose his tardis has regenerated, he has started calling himself the Doctor again (I think he must have done something/spent some time clearing up the fallout from the time war to earn back the name-time in which he was probably too forlorn or busy to look in the mirror...and let's face it the 9th Doctor was rather less vain than the 10th...) and feels ready to once again take on a companion...yes this retro-active continuity I'm taking into account, but I do think the gap between the time war and Rose was longer than many think (say a few weeks or a couple of months) and BF should explore it (they have set a few stories in that gap already).

According to Radio Times, the deal with Eccleston was only finalised shortly before it was announced, which is why he isn’t in TLV and probably why we haven’t had any further details yet. Nope the Christopher Eccleston Contributor page got leaked around May 30th so its likely he recorded audios around then
though it is unlikely that Eccleston agreed to do Time Lord Victorious and just 9DAs

Well, the Radio Times article got the quote from the Big Finish spokesperson themselves so I’d be inclined to believe that. It’s more likely that the contributor page was put up prematurely. The initial press release has Nick Briggs saying how he’s looking forward to working with him again. As he mentions writing and directing him, it sounds like it hasn’t happened yet. As well as the fact that usually when stories are recorded, they tend to put up the details. And I’m sure that if they had recorded anything with him, they would have teased it in the announcement video (like John Simm in the Masterful announcement video).

Tongue-in-cheek solution to the where do we fit the BF 9th Doctor/Companion chronology conundrum. Someone here has already identified this 'slot' as having mileage too:

After rewatching The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, can BF please do a run of stories with 9 and Nancy?! She would make a brilliant companion!😀

Florence Hoath gave up acting quite a long time ago, sadly - I think it was not long after TEC/TDD first aired.

It could be interesting if they did a follow up story with 9 meeting a grown up Jamie from TEC/TDD. Perhaps they could even do another story involving nanogenes since Jamie would be an expert on them from his experience as a child.

On the podcast Nick confirms that he's directing some, and writing one for the first boxset.

Well in about 5 hours time it will be the 1 week "anniversary" of the public announcement. I seriously did a double check the next day, "just to be sure".

www.youtube.com/watch?v=SycwzZBei5EThis came out on youtube 2 days ago. The presenter gets a bit emotional as "9" is his Doctor. He basically says what has been brought up on this forum. We are a smart bunch LOL

Saw this comment on Reddit and did make me wonder: “Is anybody else slightly worried that Briggs has been talking as if they haven’t recorded anything with Chris yet, but they’ve announced four box sets?”
I guess the poster was worried that things might fall through

I would love to know how much lead time they had to start getting scripts ready. Did this all come together quickly, so they are starting from square one or did they have an idea this might be a thing and some basic ideas were already being discussed?

Not sure if this has been noted already, but with the first box set there’ll be near double the number of CE episodes. One interesting thing about the announcement is that BF don’t usually announce before recording. That’s clearly not the case here.

And just my personal read of Eccleston, but he seems like the type to follow through on his commitments even if he’s (god forbid) not enjoying himself. I mean, he finished Thor: The Dark World
