Today marks the 5th anniversary of losing my stepfather, and just as a way to remember him during my audio listening, I wanted to know what people thought were the best Big Finish’s about grief and loss.

Today marks the 5th anniversary of losing my stepfather, and just as a way to remember him during my audio listening, I wanted to know what people thought were the best Big Finish’s about grief and loss. First of all, I'm sorry for your loss. I know that no matter how much times passes, the feeling never really goes away.
I suppose the obvious answer to your post is Survivors. Even in these currently harrowing times, I dip into this series because no matter how many bad things happen in the drama, the brilliance of production, writing and acting is never less than hugely impressive and often very moving. The characters suffer horribly, especially Jackie, played by Louise Jameson and Carol, played by Neve McIntosh. Horrendous things happen to these two, and are dealt with in an unforgiving, very human way. Sometimes comforting, often not, this series and the events within it, are not waved away by a magic sci-fi wand (not that there's anything wrong with that), but in a way that is very real. It doesn't pull any punches, this series, and yet the human spirit remains.
Blimey, that was a bit heavy, wasn't it?

There's always Absent Friends - but also, a pair of freebies - Forever Fallen and Landbound both deal with change and loss in different ways...

I have a lot of time for the Daniel Hopkins trilogy. Without spoilering it too much that deals with loss, grief and it's consequences in a way that Doctor Who rarely does.

I would have to say
LOVE ME NOT-JOHN DORNEY
From Robots Volume 1
i guess I recently redid it and it really touched me more by the excellent performances by all involved but also the exploration of what something was and what we want it to be. Its expertly handled by all involved it expertly touches on grief, loss and mental health, wonderful piece of work
somegimes we find little bits in tales that make life and those around us just a bit more special

I can think of three. Daughter of the Gods and A Death in the Family for the first two. Mourning what might have been if given the chance and mourning what was, but now has to end.
And Arrangements for War as the third. A story that's fundamentally about that moment where you just can't do it today. And that may only be today, but it's always hard. I'm very grateful for it. Particularly given where I was at that moment in life. There are invasions, counterplots and intrigue as expected, but the heart -- well, hearts, it's Evelyn and the Doctor both -- of it is how to move forward when you're snowblind with grief. A meditation on casualties. The dead and those left behind. As hopeless as a story that could end up being, it's actually rather uplifting as, in a story all about loss, it ends up celebrating what's gained. The precious value of life and living, despite and because of tragedy.

Seconded when it comes to recommending Daughter of the Gods. That and it’s just a really fantastic story.

I think No More Lies would also be one to recommend. Especially when it comes to the idea of being able to let go and move on.

Absent Friends is the one that helps me most on the saddest days.
