So Underworld and Horns of Nimon are probably the most overt examples of recontextualising myths, parables and legends in Who, as well as assorted nods here and there (how many times has the Doctor been in the Minotaur's labyrinth?) but what are some you'd put forward, or even famous stories that could be worth a spin in this franchise?
Surprisingly, not a lot has been done with elves in this franchise. The variety of different interpretations give a lot to play with.

With Jesus he could be be a Timelord perhaps even the Doctor themselves ( either an incarnation we know or a Timeless Doctor ) The miracles could be explained with Timelord science and the part where Jesus comes back from the dead could easily be explained as regeneration. Not sure how to explain Jesus’s birth, but I am sure that could be explained with some sort of timey wimey scientific explanation.

There's a legend in Galicia (northern Spain) called the Santa Compaña, a procession of holy ghosts wearing white, hooded cloaks and led by a living person who is cursed till he passes another person. That already gives you great visual horror and a way to bring in the companion(s).

I think it highly unlikely the BBC would ever allow the production office to get away with suggesting any religion's primary holy figures to be aliens etc. for the sheer storm it'd kick up.

That’s true 🤔I was more thinking from a hypothetical standpoint

Still, as purely a thought exercise, it's intriguing. Of course they'd never do it (maybe back in the Virgin days, but that's long gone) but it opens up questions.

Unlikely to ever happen because of its close association with Jesus Christ but I could see The Wandering Jew being given a science fiction twist. A machine or a long lived alien species or perhaps someone who was exposed to alien technology ala Ashildr.
Could even tie him in with the equally as immortal Count of St Germain now that I think about it.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I’m still waiting for the Battlefield sequel (for the Doctor)/ prequel (for everyone else).
I’d like to see more mythological roots in stories. I was hoping that we’d get some kind of reference to Orpheus and Eurydice in a story with Amy and Rory, but it never eventuated.
