Future Britain is bankrupt, its corporate owners facing financial ruin. Fortunately, the Universal Monetary Fund, and its slimy representative Sil, are willing to give its President a multi-billion credit bail-out... but terms and conditions apply, and Sil's proposed austerity measures go far beyond mere benefit cuts.
Responding to a distress call, the Doctor and his companion Flip land in a London whose pacified population has been driven largely underground. But the horrors down there in the dark are as nothing to the horrors that await them at ConCorp HQ, where a young biochemist in Sil's employ is working on a permanent solution to the nation's terminal unprofitability.
Because in the final account, Sil plans to make a killing...
Well it was a choice of a first listen to Mission To Magnus or a relisten...I went for the relisten
This was a story that I remember reading lots of negative reviews and basically why I stopped reading them until after I had my listen. When I read a few I thought geez this must be one of the worst ever written. But I find it a great vehicle for Flip who basically gets to be with the Doctor for quite a bit when in a few of her tales she is separated I get the scenarios and the audioscape and have no problem imagining it.Underground stations and rain falls and even if it isn’t the best script in the world Colin give his all,Lisa does too and NabiL chews his way through the script as he usually does.
Listening now am finding great drama as to the fate of Crozier and Peri and also not having heard of Anzor from Mission To Magnus I didn’t feel not having heard it even back on the original listen I had missed out.
If I find myself not enjoying and being negative about releases I find it’s time to take a breather from them so I can regroup and refocus and if I review really negatively I am always aware that I could persuade someone not to listen to something that they may enjoy ahhh the power of the pen/keyboard
