Jamie Mathieson came in swinging with possibly the best one-two punch of any writer in the show's history. One's a loving period pastiche with style to spare, the other a sleek and effective horror-thriller. But of the two, which is your jelly baby?

I love both but it’s “Mummy” all the way for me! It’s got suspense, mystery, a great villain, good side characters, beautiful costumes, setting and atmosphere, but most of all it has romance. 12 and Clara’s supposed last hurrah that they swear isn’t a date is the heart and soul of this episode and the main reason way I rewatch it so often. The amount of romantic tension between them in the beginning when they first arrive is a perfect combination of steamy and bittersweet. The ending scene on the beach is a beautiful, tender and intimate moment between the two. The I love you Clara says that’s unknown to him is directed at 12 is such a beautiful moment. Every thing about this episode is brilliant but the rekindling of 12 and Clara’s romance is everything and I think it would not be quite as good without it.
Side note: Also the 1920s jazz cover of “Don’t Stop Me Now” is amazing!

Hard choice but I think Mummy on the Orient express Mainly: Capaldi has a good costume Great monster design Clara is less in it John sessions voices the Villian

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Flatline. Mummy was good but Flatline was better.

Ooh, now this is a tough one. I adore Mummy mainly because I think it has a very fun premise and I’m always a fan of the ‘20s aesthetic but I think Flatline is the superior story. The Boneless make for one terrifying opponent and I particularly enjoy the various means they dispose of their victims.
That scene where they discover the image of someone’s anatomy on the wall and come to the conclusion that they’re not just studying the three dimensional form but dissecting it is genuinely scary.

I like them both very much but felt that the Mummy story suffered from having a confusing ending - for me, anyway! So Flatline is my choice - a truly effective horror story, with some terrific moments and a bittersweet ending.

Mummy, no contest for me! Although I thought this would be a universal opinion... So maybe I need to rewatch both of them.

I can't remember much about Flatline so I have to go with Mummy on the Orient Express! I thought Mummy on the Orient Express was very enjoyable with some great characters, it was spooky and fun in equal measure. I really liked it. The fact I can't actually remember Flatline probably speaks volumes.

Easy choice of Mummy as immediately brings up murder mystery on a train and gets Foxes version of Don't Stop Me Now stuck in my head. While I remember nothing about Flatline.

Well, this is a hard one. It brings into play both of my childhood nemeses. I was horribly afraid of two things- the mummy at the local museum and the horrible paintings in our former school, from which I had nightmares that they would come down from the wall and capture all the kindergarten kids. Both stories are quite good, I like them both, and both also have some memorable quotes, like "I am the Doctor! I fight the monsters!" and "Sometimes the only choices you have are bad ones. But you still have to choose." I think Flatline might just win out for me here, since it is just a bit creepier, and it recreated a real goose-bumb feeling with me, since it really reminded me of the evil paintings of my childhood.

Another Passenger aboard the Express
Great story, great Guest Cast and I'm a fan of the Doc/Clara dynamic here "Even though I don't I think I stuffed up last week I'll apologize" and the "Did I Overact, I don't think so, on the other hand if I leave all I've got is Danny and Coal Hill EEK"
Flatline is clever concept very nearly sidelined for "Clara Knows All" saved by that brilliant take on "I'm the Doctor" (in hindsight perhaps it should've been saved for Missy and the Cybermen in Death in Heaven.)
