If you're feeling doubt or anxiety as the deadline nears, here's some advice from BF's Cavan Scott: This is very good advice! Even though I already submitted my Paul Spragg entry, I was feeling imposter syndrome recently about my current creative project I am working on. I keep questioning if my script good enough to be selected or if all the dialogue is horrible, but this thread makes me feel better. I took screenshots of the thread for reference for next time I feel imposter syndrome😊

Submitted! Props to Drama Man for proofreading, he picked up a few details I'd missed. I managed to end my excerpt with the Doctor saying "My brain is under attack and I'm going to die!" If nothing else I hope that gets a laugh out of the judges. (I promise it sounds slightly less naff in context.) Ha, brilliant! Pretty much every time I've entered, I've seen the excerpt as the pre-credits sequence. Leave'em on a cliffhanger! That said, I've always wondered if they would read the excerpt or the synopsis first...

That said, I've always wondered if they would read the excerpt or the synopsis first... This is an interesting question (and I'd love to know the answer also!). My guess is that they'd read the synopsis first to see if the concept has 'legs' - then assuming it did, they'd look at the extract to gauge how strong the author's writing skills are. At any rate, good luck to everyone who is entering. I'm really excited on your behalf!

Just thinking I never got a confirmation email when I submitted my entry. Did everyone else not get a confirmation?

Oh my goodness I just had that really fun hour or two where I was writing down the story, and it totally changed into something new and even more exciting. I absolutely love when that happens. I thought this would be a last minute submission but… looks like I'll be turning it in tomorrow night! Huzzah for not breaking a new record of seeing how close I can get to the deadline.
Regardless of how this all turns out, I always look forward to the new Paul Spragg Memorial Short Trip at the end of each year. I love the creativity that comes out of these stories and I've yet to come across any I haven't enjoyed.

Good luck to everyone who's entered and anyone who's still making a few last-minute edits! Don't get discouraged if you don't win: I entered every year except one, never won, and then ended up winning the Bernice Summerfield contest. No writing is wasted, even if it sometimes feels like it, and rejection is completely normal. I've had more rejection letters than I can count, but I've had a few publications too, and I wouldn't have gotten those if I hadn't kept going through the rejections. Keep writing and keep trying!

Just submitted mine. Just thinking I never got a confirmation email when I submitted my entry. Did everyone else not get a confirmation? I received an auto-confirmation almost immediately.
