There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I’ll admit I haven’t watched more than a smattering of episodes in the last few years: I binged the entire series in a fortnight about 5 years ago and loved it. Maybe a thread like this will prompt me to dig it out and do that again.

We've been watching episodes here and there over the past couple of weeks. The last of which was "Weapon" with the Clonemasters and psychostrategist Carnell. In that context, the thread title has taken on a whoooole different meaning...
The whole thing watches like an extended chess gambit. One of his most tightly-plotted episodes.

You know, now that you mention it, I actually do rather like Attack of the Cybermen ...

If you like Carnell, try Kaldor City from Magic Bullet

If you like Carnell, try Kaldor City from Magic Bullet Ohh, I need to relisten to that. I wonder if... {Spoiler}...Carnell was aware of the Fendahl's influence in Kaldor City from the get-go or if it was something that he slowly came to grips with over the course of the series? I remember getting the impression that when he got his "a-ha" moment, it came with the knowledge that because he knew what was coming, he was arguably more trapped than anyone else was. It'd be interesting to revisit it in the face of The Robots.

One of these days I'm going to take a run at Blake's 7... Would folks recommend slotting the Big Finish stories in as I watch or watching the whole series and then checking out the audios?

Solus from The Spoils of War box might make a good candidate. No spoilers, but it's probably one of the closest candidates for Servalan gaining control over Liberator. One of these days I'm going to take a run at Blake's 7... Would folks recommend slotting the Big Finish stories in as I watch or watching the whole series and then checking out the audios? I'll defer to someone else with a more complete knowledge of The Liberator Chronicles, but the full-cast dramas make for an excellent bridging point. Especially moving into Series C. A lot of the things that happened in The Spoils of War, Crossfire and Restoration feel like a natural progression of the previous two seasons' politicking aboard the Liberator and with the Federation. You can watch it without them, but they add some really great context leading up to and coming away from "Star One".

I would definitely watch the whole series from start to finish...then have fun with the audios fitting them in. I would say the series is the go to first

To celebrate the inevitability of me buying Big Finish's upcoming Bayban the Butcher, I watched City at the Edge of the World tonight. I really enjoyed it - Avon's disdain for everyone, Vila and Tarrant nearly coming to blows, Cally and Dayna standing back and letting them all get on with it, and a glorious model-shredding explosion at the end of it all; and then there's Colin Baker as Bayban. Snarling and full of energy and not really very threatening - huge fun though. It's interesting that Tarrant says he's met him in a previous adventure. Will Bayban the Butcher be that previous adventure, I wonder?

Watching Project Avalon for the first time in years, I'm struck what a work of genius the new Big Finish Avalon series is. Here's a fairly blank character who has met most of the established characters, and is an ideal canvas on which to base a series. As for the original story, I really enjoyed it, and had forgotten the detail of the final revelations, which were really nicely done. A great cast too, and a silly robot! Joining the classic line-up were David Bailie and Glynis Johns, pre-Soolin.
