I feel like our DW fandom is in serious need of some positivity right now! Sometimes I feel like even though we are all fans of this silly time and space traveling alien show we forget the things we love about it and focus too much on negativity and what we don’t like. So in order for us to remind our selves why we are fans in the first place and cleanse ourselves of any negativity, I think we should all take turns and say at least one thing that we love about Doctor Who. It could be absolutely anything!
Mine: The very concept of of show:Traveling anywhere in space and time with a mysterious alien who believes in kindness and good.
12 and Clara: Twelve has the best and most touching arch of any Doctor. Clara is a human Doctor in her own right. Together they have one of the strongest and most compelling dynamics in the show’s history as well as one of the best romances!
Just the fact that DW can get so weird and experimental! What other show could you get “The Mind Robber”, “Listen”, “Heaven Sent” or “It Takes You Away”!
The character drama in general, no other show has made me feel such strong emotions over characters like DW!
Just the whole concept of the Doctor as a being is comforting and inspiring!
BF, even more wonderful DW stories many of which would be impossible on screen!
All the Doctors and their unique personalities and quirks!
The way Doctor Who inspires people’s imagination!

Probably the central idea that you can go anywhere or any when. It’s the ultimate in storytelling potential where as the great Rod Serling once said ‘the only limit is that of the imagination.’

The whole darn thing.
The idea of travelling anywhere, at any time.
The idea of turning a time/space machine in the shape of a Police Box into something that people identify as the TARDIS the world over - you'd never get away with suggesting such a concept to a TV producer today! The idea that your hero is sexless, timeless, ageless and capable of changing into someone completely different every so often - yet still remaining much the same person! The idea that every adventure is different - one week lightweight, the next horrific, historical, emotional, hard-hitting, relevant - but always escapism. The notion that Doctor Who has become its own continuity, it's own history, present and future! The fact that even now, nearly 60 years after its inception, it is still changing, evolving, challenging and reinventing. The idea that the wonderfully scary/silly show that left a lasting impression on me as a kid, is leaving exactly the same unforgettable impression on kids today. The fact that it is essentially a television show (for me at least) but has found quality and favour in book, comic and audio form. Also, and I realise this might be personal to me, Lalla Ward.
Every darn, blessed, bloomin' thing is what I love.

Hello again.
I think its that iconic signature tune. It catches the attention, it grabs you and says this is something different. This is not a reality show, a police procedural, a soap or even a typical science fiction series. It blazes its own eccentric and unique trail. First and foremost, it works best with solid story-telling and believable characters. Whether this is an alien planet, an event in history or a modern day adventure, the story-telling is key. The variety of stories told as described by Davros1.
The other key factor is the character of the Doctor, an anti-hero who just can't help interfering where there is injustice. The concept of regeneration is just brilliant. One of the things I noticed during my journey through Classic Who on Britbox was the distinct eras and approaches to the show from its creative team. Verity Lambert and her team set up the show so well that the format was essentially bombproof. Some eras have been less appreciated than others. A lot depends on when you started watching the programme.
In Nuwho, Russell T Davies basically looked at what made the show tick and updated it for tv audiences who had moved on since 1989 and 1996. Season 1 is very different to Classic Who, and it took me a few stories to work out what was going on. Two things grabbed me, the joyous adventuring arrangement of the theme by Murray Gold and Christopher Ecclestone's "You know you when you were a kid..." speech in Rose. The Doctor was back and it was about time. The combination of historical, future and contemporary stories was enjoyable and my personal favourites Dalek and The Empty Child/Doctor Dances were wonderful examples of how good Who can be.
I am looking forward to series 13. Eight episodes is better than none and with such a concentrated run and I presume no overseas shoots, it will be very interesting to see what we get. A reduced Sixties style crew will be interesting too with an older male companion again and younger female companion together with Jodie's Doctor will be a dynamic and interesting crew to spend time with.
Long live Doctor Who, simply no other programme like it.

I can give you thirteen things I love about Doctor Who. From the top...
#1: "If you could touch the alien sand and hear the cries of strange birds, and watch them wheel in another sky, would that satisfy you?"
#2: "Our lives are different to anybody else's, that's the exciting thing. Nobody in the universe can do what we're doing."
#3: "Before I was stranded on Earth, I spent all my time exploring new worlds and seeking the wonders of the universe." "But you don't know what's out there." "Then let's find out. Don't you want to set foot in another world?"
#4: "I'm not a human being, I walk in eternity."
#5: "I owe it to my friend to try because I got her into this. So you see, I'm not going to let you stop me now!"
#6: "Life does win. Whatever the Daleks may say."
#7: "Think about me when you're living your life one day after another, all in a neat pattern. Think about the homeless traveler and his old police box, with his days like crazy paving..."
#8: "Look, I can't make your dream come true forever, but I can make it come true today."
#9: "I can feel it. The turn of the Earth. The ground beneath our feet is spinning at a thousand miles an hour, and the entire planet is hurtling round the sun at sixty seven thousand miles an hour, and I can feel it. We're falling through space, you and me, clinging to the skin of this tiny little world, and if we let go. That's who I am."
#10: "Think you've seen it all? Think again. Outside those doors, we might see anything. We could find new worlds, terrifying monsters, impossible things. And if you come with me, nothing will ever be the same again."
#11: "Hold my hand, Doctor. Try to see what I see. We're so lucky we're still alive to see this beautiful world. Look at the sky. It's not dark and black and without character. The black is in fact deep blue. And over there! Lighter blue. And blowing through the blueness and the blackness, the winds swirling through the air. And there shining, burning, bursting through, the stars! Can you see how they roar their light? Everywhere we look, the complex magic of nature blazes before our eyes." "I’ve seen many things, my friend, but you’re right. Nothing quite as wonderful as the things you see."
#12: "You're going to die, too, someday. When will that be? Have you thought about it? What would you die for? Who I am is where I stand. Where I stand is where I fall. Stand with me. These people are terrified. Maybe we can help a little. Why not, just at the end, just be kind?"
#13: "I know because we're all the same. We want certainty, security, to believe that people are evil or heroic. But that's not how people are. You want to know the secrets of existence? Start with the mysteries of the heart. I can show you everything if you stop being afraid of what you don't understand."
I can give you thirteen and, yet, thirteen doesn't nearly seem enough, does it? That's the magic of the show.

Honestly i find it so hard to be positive about doctor who these days going from a beloved TV show i utterly adored and brought joy to one that i have nothing but burning contempt for. i guess back in the early days of New Who (and Classic Who) is that it was a show that felt like it had endless possibilities, a huge mythology which you could go into hours reading/watching/listen to.
you had compelling Doctors and Companions which all felt unique and interesting, there was lots of mystery in its backstory something which Russel T Davies himself excelled at creating. Series 3 was a prime example of Great Doctor Who you had one of the best and beloved doctors (a character filled with energetic enthusiasm while also displaying grief for the loss of his former companion Rose and the fallout of the time war) Two amazing companions (Martha Jones- one of the most underrated and relatable companions and Captain Jack who finally got some good character development) and some amazing stories- A Fun energetic Opener with Smith and Jones. the gorgeously designed and hilarious The Shakespeare Code, The beautiful uplifting Gridlock, The Amazing Adaptation of Human Nature, The Terrifying and brilliantly directed Blink, The Glorious return of The Master in Utopia/Sound of Drums and Last of The Time Lords and the return of The Fifth Doctor in Time Crash)
then you had Big Finish's 8th Doctor and Lucie Adventures with Blood of The Daleks to To The Death- having the best doctor/companion pairing with amazing Chemistry between Paul McGann and Sheridan Smith. building up to the climax and setting up Paul McGann's Doctor to fight The Daleks in the future (until a certain writer decided to derail the train)

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Honestly, I love the basic formula of the show and the character of the Doctor: a traveller across the cosmos who touches briefly down on worlds and changes them forever. While there have been aspects of every era of the show that I haven't fully bought or enjoyed, there has been enough that I have loved about that has kept me coming back for more. Even the years when I was really only a casual viewer I still enjoyed it when it was on and made a point of catching it if it didn't clash with other plans or with what other people in the family were watching. It's just that tale of a traveller who doesn't need to interfere but finds that they can't avoid it, through circumstance, obligation or morality.
