Absolutely abysmal performance from England. No passion or heart, all the players care about is the money. Shouldn't be paid to play for your country it should be a honor. Bring back the team from 1990 they had passion

Bring back the team from 1990 they had passion The England players get around £2,000 each per cap, which is a tiny amount of their club wage - and they, certainly as of a couple of years ago, don't take the money but donate it to charity. So that's not really the issue. Passion? That's more like the problem. Stephen O'Donnell is nearly 30 and plays for Motherwell for under a thousand pounds a week. Yet he had Raheem Sterling AND Harry Kane in his pocket on Friday. Between them they're on 500K a week... It was a fantastic performance from Scotland and we should have won it - Che Adams came so close. So did Andy Robertson. The much-criticised Jordan Pickford saved England's blushes big time. I'm not a big fan of the structure of the Euros since 2016 though. A 4 team group and 3 can qualify from it? That's just silly. Wales have now got in through that back door twice. It'd be like the Top 15 sides in the EPL all qualifying for Europe.

It'd be like the Top 15 sides in the EPL all qualifying for Europe. Wales finished second in their group, and won their group in 2016, so not quite through the back door. A third place finish is a back door to the knockout phase that we (Scotland) would happily take if it means finally getting beyond the group stage. We were unlikely to ever qualify for a 16 team Euros. We couldn’t get into the first 24 team event. We are only at this one through the back door of the Nations League play-off. The best third place thing adds a bit extra, I think. It’s been perversely fun working out all the permutations that could see Scotland go through, and all those that would lead to our traditional glorious failure. What’s the alternative though? - Back to 4 groups of 4 and a simple top two into a last 8. Being selfish, Scotland would probably never qualify. - Six groups of four, but only group winners and the best two second place through to a last 8. Group stage would be cutthroat. I like it! - Expand to 28 teams in seven groups. Top two through and best two of the 7 third place teams. Or go all the way to 32 teams, half through to last 16. Most of the big nations need never worry about not qualifying again. Nations like Scotland might/should qualify more often. My preferred option, again mostly for selfish reasons.

Having a group phase where only 8/24 teams don’t go through does seem a bit silly, but as my own nation didn't even qualify for the tournament we'd happily take being third in a group of four and going through!!!

It makes a mockery of competition - would I take it? Yes..but that's the point, it's to appease as many people as possible and expose them to sponsors - not for sporting reasons. We're seeing it with this new Europa Conference League too, a third tier Euro cup designed just for more marketing and getting clubs from the big 5 who may have had average seasons still into Europe. They're not doing it for the St. Johnstone's of the world. I don't mind the CL where 3rd place gets you the Europa League as that's a clear step down (though, again, it's only there to ensure any big clubs don't slide out of Europe by finishing 3rd) but 3 out of 4 getting through? Nah..it's not sport then, it's participation. The "big nations" may as well get a bye into these things anyway since that's clearly where Football is headed. Their Super League failed but if the Sky money drops...they'll try again.

But, most importantly - best wishes to Billy Gilmour. After showing Phillips, Rice, Foden and Mount how it's done and being the best player on the pitch the other night, he's got COVID.

Big uproar in Germany since UEFA forbid lighting the Arena in Munich in rainbow colours. From driving by, this has been one of the stable colours of the place. Saying it is a "political statement" is utter BS. Needless to say, this is top of national news. Of course, we have other problems (and enough homo phobes of our own), but isn't it nice to bash on some foreign rightwing hardliner? Maybe Greenpeace sneaks in again and oups! flicks the wrong light switch?

Putting aside any potential displays of jingoism I can safely say I’m looking forward to the match in any case. And I’m sure our German brethren will be as well. No matter the outcome.

Meanwhile, here in Germany, most people find it hard to care.....
all I feel tonight is a faint sense of amusement.

That's a comfortable run of games at Wembley with the home crowd supporters. The next game is an awayday. I guess they need to recruit some players who are equally reliable at scoring, whether they be at home, or playing away:

Best performance I've seen by an England team in a long time. Based on last night's performance ... it could be coming home!
