Heh. A part of me is wondering whether they planned to release it last year but for obvious reasons decided not to.

Same here, mark687! I am absolutely delighted about this. I wonder how it will sell. Regardless of the undoubted quality, real life events have made this series tragically topical - although there does seem to be a thread of optimism running through the promotional blurb. A guaranteed pre-order from my good self, the question I have to ask is - how did this happen? Big Finish made no secret of the fact that the full casts hadn't been selling well and that the series was ending. Come to think, a lot of BF series have ended with a degree of finality, only to be resurrected. Don't misunderstand me, this is truly great news, but did sales pick up? Were BF deluged by emails begging for a return?
Anyway - truly great news. Ironic to be so uplifted by something so grim!

At the time they said they would be ending the continuous run and plots that started in the TV Series with Series 9, but that Survivors could always come back. Maybe this new series is set within the continuity, not after Series 9.

I hope this means a sale on some of the later volumes of the original series at some point!

I get the impression, from the umbrella title (New Dawn) and the blurb, that these may be set after Series 3 of the TV show: Big Finish Blurb: The world has ended. The pandemic crossed continents, sparing only a fraction of the global population. The survivors are now trying to pick up the pieces and rebuild society to create a new future. But with only a handful of towns and cities starting to rise from the ashes, and governance and law-making in a fragile, fledging state, everyone must start over. And the worst of human nature has survived along with the best... This would appear to tally how the original series drew to a close. Here is the description of the final TV episode from Wikipedia: 3.12 "Power" Broadcast 8 June 1977 Travelling to a hydro-electric power station in Scotland, Charles, Jenny, and Hubert meet a local laird, who tells them that in the Highlands more than 150,000 people have survived the plague, making it the most densely populated part of Britain. Charles informs him that they are there to switch the electricity back on, which Alec and Sam are now working on. At the power station, Alec is making preparations, but Sam is sabotaging Alec's work. The others arrive there to find Alec unconscious, while Sam has disappeared, intent on wrecking the whole system. During a struggle, Sam is killed. Before the supply is restored, the Laird argues with Charles that the power belongs to Scotland, but Alec insists that he is the only one able to switch it back on. After they reach an agreement that Alec will control the supply, Alec switches it on.

Wheeeeee finally!! I was actually just thinking a few days ago that I was disappointed that they said Survivors would continue in some form....and then the last release was two years ago with no further news.

YES! FINALLY! 1 of my fave non-Who ranges is back (now to get Omega Factor and Dark Shadows..) I last re-listened to the 1st 4 seasons last year around March/April when things started to get bad here, international flights were still open people were flying in and out of the worst hit countries to Oz willy nilly and the general Aussie public were collectively screaming at the Prime Minister to shut the borders down to cut this thing off at the head..
Just gone 6am here, immediate pre-orders from me.

Just seen the announcement.
I had assumed that any future releases would go down the same path as The Omega Factor and Jago and Litefoot and be narrated Audiobook, so the fact that New Dawn 1 and 2 appear to be full cast and possibly picking up from where series 9 left off..consider me surprised and delighted in equal measure.
Now if we can just have a Survivors weekly deal at some point please...

I need all 9 seasons on digital (another 40+% off $ale at Book Depository years ago)..

I was considering emailing the podcast to ask where the hinted-at audiobooks were - no need now!
This is really great news.

I'm delighted to see Survivors back. It's by far my favourite non-DW range and one of my favourite overall BF ranges. Will definitely be picking this up.
