Having just finished Audible's The Sandman: Act II and thrilled to hear the intention is to adapt the remainder of Neil Gaiman's Sandman catalogue, it got me thinking what the next big venture for Audible and Dirk Maggs could be. Given the star power that Maggs can assemble with these no-holds-barred audio dramatisations of the acclaimed comic series, it honestly feels like there's nothing he can't do. Plus I feel like the completion of The Sandman feels like a natural conclusion to the renaissance of radio adaptations that come out of the Gaiman-Maggs collaboration (Neverwhere, Stardust, Anasi Boys). So it'd be good to see what other material would be available for Maggs to tackle next.
So what about an adaptation of the Dark Horse Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight (and even beyond!) comic continuation of the series?
I've not read them, but just wanted to hear what people who have to say on this idea? Do you think it's feesible for the cast to be involved? Are they worth adapting? Do you think there's still leverage in the idea? Not just with the passage of time, but the current controversy surrounding Joss Whedon.
General thoughts, really?

As I was saying elsewhere, Weddon is SO toxic now it'd be hard to see. And unlike many shows, that was one of the first where the showrunner kinda became a star and a name to fans as well so there'd be no getting round it. I did read a few seasons but eventually it became REALLY fan-fic, verging on slash. Same as the Smallville continuation comics and Trek novels beyond Nemesis - just all become pure fan service with story secondary. I don't think all the cast would fancy it anyway but then I was amazed they got ALL the X-Files cast for those audios. What I WOULD love to hear is the Giles-spin off, Ripper, that Weddon proposed to the BBC as a lower key, lower budget show more like Jonathan Creek than Buffy.

I can see what you mean about Whedon's star status (unwantingly) leaving a stain on the series that is hard to look passed. If it was based on the TV show, I'd suggest a way around that would be bringing to the forefront the other talented (less problematic) writers who helped cultivate the show, and make them part of the dialogue. Because it's a shame that their work and contributions to the series had to be sullied by the top of the pyramid being corrupted. I'm aware other writers helped craft the comic continuation, so that may be a necessary route to take. But I agree, it is difficult to do with Whedon being a cult icon through his work. Did it become fanfic-y? That's unfortunate, I guess when the well of creativity runs dry, you kind of have to rely on what you've done before and build on that. Plus the mainstream aren't buying these comic continuations, so they know their market is a fanbase who will understand callbacks and references. But I'm sure there must be some elements that are worth exploring. From what I've read about it, the stuff involving Faith would definitely interest me (and I'd just love to listen/watch any work that Eliza Dushku does anyway). The Angel/Twilight stuff... hmm, maybe not so much. But maybe Maggs executing it in audio performance could make something more appealing out of it. I agree on the Ripper front! I remember suggesting on the old forum that as a series I'd love Big Finish to pick up and run with. But I know that further into the comic series, they use a lot of the story material that was going to be used for that series in the comics themselves. So it would kind of be necessary to adapt those comics to get the narrative juice out of that potential spin-off series.

I suppose now that Disney own Buffy, it's a moot point - they licence almost nothing for home media.
