This one's had an interesting history - shrouded in mystique when it was lost, then when it came back in 1993 its status seem to get taken down a couple of pegs. Now, it seems to be returning to its former prestige as a worthy Cyber story, between Tenth Planet and Invasion. Indeed, it was among my first Classic Whos - it's Cybermen do Mummy, how was that not going to be my jam?
But what did you think, favourite bits etc.

All of episode 1 is brilliant. “Well, now I know you’re mad. I just wanted to make sure.” Rather impressive Cybersuits and thst defrosting/rebirth scene is excellent. I love the Cybermen going ‘ow!” after he’s hit in the wrong place.

I just love the 2nd Doctor in this even the distracting obvious wire work 😂.The awakening scene is still thrilling,The Doctor attempting to sabotage the teams opening of the tombs lower chamber. It is just good thrilling Classic Who story telling. given the budget was probably pants they achieved a lot and can honestly say it beats any of the modern Who for rewatch value.

Its a contradiction of subtle and ambitious. Some very strong character work ( Klegg, Kraftan, the Professors, there's even hints of backstory on Captain Hopper, least we forget still one of the best onscreen direct references to family by the Doctor), then you've got the Cybermats and the awakening. Yet despite all that it still turns out somewhat average, Having said that, because of the character work, its worthy of another attempt at a hopefully decent sequel.

This was one of the first classic serials I watched, coming right from watching the 11th Doctor series. Reason- in the audio commentary, they talked about giving this serial to Matt Smith to watch and Smith loved it. One thing that immediately stuck out to me was the Doctor falling asleep. This was something coming from NuWho struck me as unusual. And there is some racism in there with the black servant. Otherwise, for what it is, when it was made and the budget they had available- I do not think they could have done it any better.

Is it wrong to say I never seen it? I had the audio tape but never listened past first 10 mins…..
General consensus seemed to be the audio was better than watching it……..should I listen or watch or stay as I am….

When I first watched it, I had never experienced it’s status as a Lost Story so I guess i wasn’t at all disappointed with it as others was.
Still think it’s an excellent story with some lovely moments in it. Obviously the scene between the Doctor and Victoria is a standout and the Cybermen being thawed out is still an impressive sequence even fifty something years later.
I am surprised at just how many times Telos has been revisited in the Expanded Universe though.

I'll never be able to look at this one without rose-tinted glasses as this was literally my first Classic Who serial I watch back in 2013 when for the anniversary/Christmas, I got a whack of Who on dvd including a collection for the first four Docs with The Aztecs, This, Spearhead and Pyramids of Mars. Loved it, and it was just a great way to introduce me to the world of Classic Who.

Just checked my Troughton ranking list and I've got Tomb in the exact middle - #11 of 21. Which means it probably is a good representation of the era. Its story is a little wonky, but it's got some great lines for the Doctor and obviously influenced the Cybermen for the rest of the series.

A personal favourite, but not without flaws. The cybermen are fantastic as well as the chemistry between the leads. Hopper is a touch on the hammy side, but I still don’t like Toberman’s treatment. Still it’s a story I look at fondly enough to have taken the name Telos for my cat

Of course you should watch it am very much the same with The Abominable Snowmen i love the soundtrack i love the target book but though my imagination did wonders for the setting that in no way compared with the actual surviving episode lol and the stills i had seen,I still had to watch though.I loved Troughtons Doctor and he is always a pleasure to watch....go for it

**** yeah, let's! Its been a while since I've gone through the Troughton era, though I plan to rewatch some favorites soon. As i remember, I think I actually didn't like Tomb of the Cybermen as much as the other "best" 2nd Doctor stories (partly because, I think, I'm just not fond of Cybermen in general). I remember the first episode as being kind of boring, and the effects work as particularly bad (which I say as one of those weirdos who genuinely thinks the B&W eras tended to look better than the color eras of Classic). But Troughton is, as ever, perfection incarnate in the role, and has some really great back-and-forth banter in this one, as I recall. My memory of the story is not really caring much for the plot, but perking up every time there was a dialog scene with the Doctor. Just checked my Troughton ranking list and I've got Tomb in the exact middle - #11 of 21. Which means it probably is a good representation of the era. Its story is a little wonky, but it's got some great lines for the Doctor and obviously influenced the Cybermen for the rest of the series. I wanna see your ranking list!

That's an excellent list! Only opinion I don't really share is Space Pirates, assuming I'm not misremembering, which I remember as being pretty decent, who knows what I'll think after a rewatch, though.
Also, apologies, but I was testing you. The real goal was to see whether or not Enemy of the World made it into your top 5. Congratulations! You passed!

Space Pirates is one of those stories that absolutely fails to save in my memory*. Maybe an eventual animation/surprise find will change my opinion of it! *Other than Milo Clancey.
