I don’t think it is. Tim Bradley thinks it is because of its use of supernatural themes, black magic and the debate of science over magic, as well as the climax. I personally didn’t have a problem with the first three things, despite being a Christian, although I can understand the climax. I personally feel as though it’s one of the best Doctor Who stories ever and it’s my favourite of Season 8.

Probabley though not cause of its themes
Needs more Brigadier and the put down of Jo by the Doctor always leaves a sour taste.

As someone who only watched it very recently and knew of its reputation in the fandom I was fully expecting to find it overrated but I actually think it deserves its reputation; it’s a very good story.

For me, Daemons is probably one of my favourite Doctor Who stories of all time. Pertwee, Delgado and Manning giving their best performances in their run, with an amazing setting, top notch writing and pacing and is one of the best looking serials in Classic Who. I understand some might not be a fan of the supernatural themes, but for myself, as someone who is an atheist/agnostic, I find a real enjoyable element in this because of the themes it handles.

Well to break the consensus. Yes, it is a bit.
I watched for first time last year (I think? The passage of time is hard to mark these days). And it was…okay. It felt like Pertwee era by the numbers. Pertwee and Manning are present and correct, Master is present and correct, UNIT is present and correct but it just felt kinda hollow for me for some reason.
Azal really confuses me. He’s a scientist who has studied entire species…but has never come across the concept of self sacrifice? And being confused…kills him? Ultimately he’s all style and no substance.
I dunno maybe it’s just me lacking any particular nostalgia for Pertwee era.

The Daemons is one of the classic Doctor Who stories... it's up there with the best of 'em.
So no, it's not overrated!
