Red Dwarf was my introduction to him, but the Brittas Empire has been equally as good. I've also enjoyed him in Spitting Image.

I guess Rimmer but only because I prefer him over Brittas. To be honest, I do feel like Brittas as a character was overshadowed somewhat by the strangeness of some of the other characters such as the receptionist who keeps her children in a desk drawer.

Rimmer, but only because of Ace... and because he got to be more fleshed out over the seasons than Brittas, IMO.

Given his talent for voices/imitations, I am surprised BF have never used him - either to play an original character or a recast character

Casting my mind back, I quite liked him as Gary Prince the ex-footballer. But, since I don't think it got a second series, I'm not sure anyone else did.

Interestingly enough, Chris Barrie has said to have been better known for Brittas than Rimmer. I believe Red Dwarf was more internationally aired than the Brittas Empire, but then they could just be talking about the UK.

Red dwarf hands down
Fun fact The thin blue line was originally written for Chris Barrie but they ended up casting Rowan Atkinson after Barrie turned down the role

IIRC Brittas was prime time BBC 1 whereas Red Dwarf was 9pm BBC 2, so I could believe he is better known for Brittas.

IIRC Brittas was prime time BBC 1 whereas Red Dwarf was 9pm BBC 2, so I could believe he is better known for Brittas. Red Dwarf was up to a rather astonishing 8 million viewers by Series VIIIs premiere ep in 1999, so I would not hold its status on BBC2 against it. Any other show with numbers even remotely like that woulda been bumped to BBC1 but as Naylor said, it was such a horrible time for sci-fi at the BBC that they were wiping the floor with BBC1 competition most weeks...and instead of bein congratulated, it was almost held against RD in a "how dare they.." kinda way. For me while Barrie has more to do as Rimmer, Ace, the evolution of normal Rimmer etc - Brittas is a classic character too. In the tradition of Arthur Lowe in Dads Army in playing a character who feels he is far more important than he is. Yet Chris did manage to instill a bit of heart and awareness into him. Just so much to keep him from an audience really hating him. Brittas never acts out of malice. Its also a much darker show than many remember - it kills off pensioners and kids in very macabre ways. Which is one reason the end of the show was so reviled, it undercut all that. And overseas he is probably better known as Lara Crofts butler in the Jolie Tomb Raiders.

Wow! I would never have thought of PD to play Mr. Brittas in 'The Brittas Empire'! Tim I can just imagine his interpretation of Mr. Brittas when a crisis ensues. Gavin: what do we do Mr. Brittas? Mr. Brittas: I'll think of something Jamie. Laura: are you all right Mr. Brittas? Mr. Brittas: fit as a fiddle Vicki. Colin: how do I get this working Mr. Brittas? Mr. Brittas: get K9 to explain. And he would frequently say "brave heart" on top of all that.

I can actually see parallels between the Season 19/20 Tardis team and Whitbury Newtown Leisure Centre.
Mr. Brittas = the Doctor
Laura = Nyssa
The rest of the staff = Tegan
I’m not sure where Colin would fit in.

Interestingly enough, Peter Davison worked with Pippa Haywood in the BBC sitcom Fear, Stress & Anger.
