"Bilis Manger has been murdered. And he’s determined to find out who did it. Four people at dinner are the suspects, and they’ve each got murky secrets and at least one skeleton in the closet.
What is really on the menu at one of Soho’s finest restaurants? And will any of the suspects make it out alive?"
Cast :
Rosa Escoda (Felicity Templeton) Hugh Ross (Oliver Barleycorn) Cleo Sylvestre (Beryl Finch) Tony Turner (Gerald Spencer)

Looking at that cover just makes me long for a Boom Town esque dinner sequence involving the War Master and Manger. An entire episode focusing on the pair simply talking to one another. Would be quite something I think.

Sean Longmore's artwork really does get better with every release he works on, this may be my new favourite Torchwood cover, and it's definitely up there with one of my favourite BF covers.

Would be quite something I think. YES. Especially since the two sound so similar, it could actually be used to make the listener question who is doing what and why... God they need to do that! Unstoppable Force VS Unstoppable Force!

Only the mighty dulcet tones of Murray Melvin can make a line like "Mind if I join you?" sound like a snake cordially wrapping itself around a potential victim. If I have a tenth of Mr Melvin's wit and charm in my late eighties, I'll be delighted, and surprised! The aristocratic, slightly pained, silky smooth Bilis Manger is an exceptional character, perfectly performed.
Moving on from the MM appreciation, Manger is surrounded by an impressive cortège of upper-crust grotesques. Hugh Ross in particular is notable for displaying his inner Dennis Price for the role of Oliver Barleycorn. Everyone here is on point though, creating some deeply suspicious, sardonic characters without ever lapsing into 'silly voices' that have blighted some Big Finish releases. Bitchy and murderous, this 'what-dunnit' is my favourite Torchwood release for some time.

Another example of charming Evil where once again there are a couple of instances despite what they've done the characters are likable that you hope that final fate won't be too grisly.

Murray Melvin is a true voice artist. I rank him VERY highly.
THIS is what I expect in audio dramas and of voice acting. I am not looking for "Who can imitate the 2nd Doctor the best" or similar.

Well, this was dark and murderous. Billis Manger was deliciously evil, as expected. Perfectly performed.

This is one of Bilis’ nastier appearances (pure self interest and openly admits there was no real reason for him picking these people to torment), especially after Curios where he was sort-of an ally. Melvin is of course on his usual fine form.
And ouch the hints of that final scene.
As always with these stories, I’m left wanting more of Bilis.

Greatly enjoyed this. And it’s always nice when we’re treated to another outing with Bilis Manger. Although I certainly wouldn’t want him turning up at my door!

Why are BF not exploiting the Gothic wonderment and delight in a Bilis Manger's own range of stories. A sort of curiosity box/Tales of the Unexpected style range. It has to be a winner.

Would you see Manger acting as merely a Narrator akin to Rod Serling or playing an active role in said stories? Has to be Bilis channeling his inner Rod Serling / Alfred Hitchcock for sure! And the title of this anthology horror series is obvious too.."Bilis Manger Presents"..😁
