This one was kind of interesting? Always love a clever framing story.
And it occurs to me that Zoe is rather criminally underused in this franchise. Maybe Jaime just casts too big of a shadow.
I do appreciate how the flashback story felt pretty much exactly like a middling Troughton story from the 60s, but that also made it just kind of... boring. Especially in the first half or so before it became evident that the interesting stuff was happening within the framing story.
I'm also a bit iffy on that whole... thing with the achromatics. And the way the script links these creatures to The Picture of Dorian Grey. Is Dorian Grey simply a more ubiquitous piece of media in British culture? It kind of felt like the story was presuming a little too much familiarity there, but that may be because I'm simply not from the U.K.
Anyway, overall I found Echoes to be a fun listen, though I expect I'll forget pretty much everything about it sooner rather than later. If nothing else, it leaves me more inclined to seek out stories with Zoe in the limelight than before.
Well, have any of y'all listened to Echoes of Grey recently, or remember it well enough to weigh in? What did you think of it?
