Watched it for the first time in the last year or so, I was...whelmed? I didn't think it was the worst thing ever, but definitely didn't think it was great.

It's alright, storywise - can't say I recall the plot to be honest! I like the ideas behind it, though - the robot Master as a companion, the ascended/escaped-to-another-universe Time Lords sending the Doctor on missions... and course I love that Richard E. Grant was a Doctor, however briefly.

It was fun. But… it was effectively an “an unearthly child”, it needed a “the Daleks” to shine. Who would have failed if judged only on “An Unearthly Child” without something like “the Daleks”.

In a way it sort showcases Classic DW Production
Ardent Audience, a couple of dedicated creatives and almost no money and no interest from the BBC and now it provides tantalizing hints of the future.
I recommend tracking down the Novelization (if nothing else it gives a more coherent intro to the Doctor)
