"Forget Elf on the Shelf, advent calendars, and ugly Christmas jumpers! This year, explore the historical tradition of spooky seasonal stories with Queen Victoria (Rowena Cooper).
Christmas Eve, and in a secret library underneath Buckingham Palace, Queen Victoria has invited her new prime minister to a very private tradition.
At one hour to midnight, the monarch insists on the telling of ghost stories. Stories of the supernatural, the alien, and the unsettling. Only this year, something else has got in.
We are not alone."

The story synopsis sounds terrific. But again, it does make me long for Big Finish to put out a historical adventure with M.R. James

I am not that much into Torchwood, but this one has gotten my interest.

I like Queen Victoria (Rowena Cooper). 😊 Her story was the 3rd Torchwood monthly I bought, even before Martha & Billis (who are also my favorites). 👍🏻

I am not that much into Torchwood, but this one has gotten my interest. If you like spooky stories with Torchwood, I’d suggest giving The Grey Mare and The Crown a listen from this range.

I thought the Grey Mare was alright, but I had some issues with "the Crown". Yes, it is spooky, but I am TIRED of the extremely common trope in most of the few Torchwood episodes I have listened to: "Torchwood are the biggest monsters around, and the monsters need to be afraid of them". How often did this pop up already?
But I hope this new Christmas creepy release brings something new. Just looking at it statistically, they surely cannot bring the same twist AGAIN?

My buddy Jonny and I used to quote the old sci-fi trope in increasingly OTT voices to crack each other up at work. "But of course...the real monster here...IS MANKIND"

Is it meant to be an actual historical PM or just an unnamed fictitious PM?

Well, it was well performed and atmospheric. I give it that. Sadly, it has the same twist as the other Victoria episodes I have listened to and I am a bit tired of it. See my previous complaint and fear how this would turn out further above in this thread.

Hugh Frazer tells a hell of a ghost story. His had me the most freaked out.

Having listened to this…. I am still not sure what happened at the end. And then the multiple mentions that Castringham has been involved before. I am lost.

I am lost. {Spoiler} Victoria awoke the entity possessing the PM and made a deal with it for it to continue as PM. Castringham is just her loyal servant so has presumably helped her in similar activities before.

I quite enjoyed this. Nice dose of festive ghost stories. From her closing monologue, I do wonder if this is the last we’ll get of Victoria.

A lot of the Queen Vic stories in this range haven't grabbed me like others. But this was an exception. I liked this one quite a bit. And there is something about Hugh Fraser's voice that I really liked. He was perfectly cast in the Blakes 7 range as the President and he's great here as well. Thumbs up from me on this one
