i can honestly say that game of thrones is a better show than doctor who the writing is much better and that gives the overall excellent cast a lot to work with. of course you can say they are apple and oranges about how they are structured and what their scripts are expected to do and i would agree. While I agree they are very different shows I wouldn't agree Game of Thrones was better than Doctor Who. I was really dissapointed by the most recent series of Doctor who but still find it head and shoulders above Game of Thrones which manages to sink so far below the quality of it's source material a to be pretty much unwatchable.

Even Star Wars which is the 3rd highest grossing film of all time currently. Derailing this conversation further. since I've been a little obsessive about movie money making (yay!), it's fun to think how those numbers would be different if it were possible to account for the fluctuating worth of the Dollar globally, as well as for inflation.
I get bored at work often.
The inflation is easy enough to check - even wiki keeps a record of the top 100 films with adjusted box office but the point about global markets is interesting as that's attributed as major factor in Avatar being so far and away the biggest film at the box office ever. Yeah, it did stunningly well - of course - but if Star Wars (and Titanic for that matter) competed in that financial climate of 2009 their takings would be much higher too and Avatar wouldn't be quite as untouchable at the top if it were released a few years either way. I always thought "How many people sat on their arse to watch the film" would be a better metric

Boxofficemojo.com will give you an estimated tickets per day. Since I started really messing with numbers, I find it interesting the predictions people put out about Star Wars. I like learning this stuff.
I also find it interesting the amount of people who look at what's it's made and act like that's all it will make. A lot of people who go "It didn't beat Avatar!" and make it seem like because it didn't get 2.7 billion dollars it failed, and we should all be ashamed of liking the movie, or hoping it could get that much money. but we shall see in the long run how well it does. It should be in theaters in the US till April, and in the rest of the world, probably longer. It's sad it probably won't be in theaters as long as Avatar was, but I'll dream a little for that.

I can honestly say I completely disagree, and this is coming from a major Game of Thrones fan. This past season really disappointed me and I did not feel as though the writing was on the standard we should hold Game of Thrones to. I'm not saying Doctor Who is a perfect show by comparison, but I certainly left every episode of Series 9 feeling eager to see the next, which is more than I can say about Thrones.

It's based of the exact same rankings as the last award. And I do have to agree with the others, there method of assigning accolades is flawed. Game of Thrones has the on average better ratings than Doctor Who, but has a single rotten tomato, while Doctor Who does not... It's fun, but I don't think I trust the Golden Tomatoes as an award.

Whether you agree with it or not, it's still a major achievement for Doctor Who to be voted above Game of Thrones in an international website like Rotten Tomatoes.
