What a weird and silly way to list things. So despite game of thrones had 7 out of 10 individual episodes higher than doctor who's individual highest of 95 percent it gets a lower ranking because of 1 episode of game of thrones getting 58 percent which was just 2 percent away from being fresh. If you work out the average which is add the total percentages together and divide by how many episodes game of thrones has an average of 96.9 and doctor who had 87.9.

Who cares anyway, it's only Rotten Tomatoes?! Yeah, 'only' Rotten Tomatoes who are the best indication of whether films are worth bothering with or not given how their consensus is based on overall critic opinions.

Doctor Who came higher than Game of Thrones! But it makes the ranking pointless and flawed if 1 is higher than the other despite the lower ranked show having a higher average overall. It makes it difficult for people to take the list seriously. Plus neither came in 1st does it matter? Unless you have an axe to grind with game of thrones it really doesn't.

Although I think it will be critically acclaimed anyway.

I'm going to just say this is weird and arbitrary.
Best thing to do is know your tastes, and don't let other people tell you your tastes are wrong.

I'm going to just say this is weird and arbitrary. Best thing to do is know your tastes, and don't let other people tell you your tastes are wrong. That's reasonable enough advice for television. Hard to apply with cinema though because you don't want to pay cinema prices and find the film is a load of ****. Ghostbusters is a must-see for me though regardless of expense.

Or, you learn the type of movies you like, the reviewers who have similar tastes and views that you do. Understand why the Rotten Tomatos system is flawed. And as well, look at the Trailers, understand what the movie is going to be, what do the trailers tell you about the movie. From there form opinions on what the final product should be, and determine if you wish to go see it. After that, look at what people say about it in reviews, take into account what their biases are, and look for what they had problems with, if they match the type of issues you have with movies.
After years of watching movies, I know pretty much from one trailer if I'd like the movie or not. And out of the 2 to 3 dozen movies I see a year, maybe one isn't what I'd want out of it. It takes time to really get a good ear and eye for it, but one should trust their gut more than not.
And I'm curious why you keep bringing up Ghostbusters. No one here is talking about it, but you're already feel like you're on the defensive about it, chill man.

I use the Rotten Tomatoes system for movies too. I don't think it is flawed at all. No system is perfect but if I see reviews that are less than a B I am not seeing that movie in the theaters.
Honestly hasn't failed me yet. While I haven't loved every movie I saw in the theaters at least I haven't seen anything truly bad where I felt I wasted my money in quite some time. And most movies I have seen I actually do enjoy.
Not saying you shouldn't look at other aspects like cast, staff, and plot synopsis as well. But aggregate reviews are very helpful on widdling out the junk.
And they are also helpful discovering a smaller film that you might not have heard of if not for the good buzz of high reviews.

The Reason I call it flawed is because whether a review is fresh or not, one tends to assume that 95% means it's really good, but it could really just be that everyone saying it isn't bad. No aggregate is perfect, they are all flawed. you just need to be aware of what they are. in a one to five scale, if the movie gets a 2.5, the review can go either fresh or rotten, and a movie that every agrees is just above the bad line, could get a high percentage on the site.
I personally use it, I like it a lot. but there have been plenty of 30% movies I've thought were very fun.

I was just using it as an example where I'm not going to use Rotten Tomatoes to form my opinion but to be honest I generally feel defensive about wanting to see Ghostbusters at the moment because there's a lot of negativity surrounding the film.

I actively refused to look at reviews for Star Wars, I know a lot of people who did. But maybe you should stop looking into Ghostbusters 3 if you're getting defensive about what people are saying. I'm not seeing any flak thrown at them from here.

I haven't seen anything on here but it's getting criticised all over the internet and it's annoying me at the moment considering there hasn't even been a trailer yet. The cast and crew will have put so much work into it only for people to cruelly dismiss it before they've seen a single bit of footage; it just feels nice to provide a bit of support on the internet in the form of an example of a film where Rotten Tomatoes scores wouldn't matter (iMO).

i can honestly say that game of thrones is a better show than doctor who the writing is much better and that gives the overall excellent cast a lot to work with. of course you can say they are apple and oranges about how they are structured and what their scripts are expected to do and i would agree.

You could say that about pretty much any franchise. Even Star Wars which is the 3rd highest grossing film of all time currently. Go to any article on Facebook and you will find loads of comments moaning about it. I wouldn't take no heed of people complaining about it. If it's good people will see regardless of them saying they won't see it if it's not people probably won't.

Derailing this conversation further. since I've been a little obsessive about movie money making (yay!), it's fun to think how those numbers would be different if it were possible to account for the fluctuating worth of the Dollar globally, as well as for inflation.
I get bored at work often.
