I'm not making this thread with any malicious intent, since he has been dead for two years and cannot defend himself.
He's done some great plays, such as in that World Cup match when he ran past five England defenders to score. That being said though, the match might have gone on longer if he hadn't done 'The Hand of God'.
I wonder if the Maradona movie is any good.

I only know that we kids really admired him back in the 80s. This was back in the time when I (a girl) really aspired to play soccer, but as usual was put down with the words "this is not what girls do, go and play with dolls and behave normally". My dad was the soccer trainer. Anyways, I still ran along with my brother and the other boys at soccer training and heartily discussed the World Cup that was on that time. Maradonna was more of a hero to us than any of the German players.... So this is my memory of that.
Sadly, my parents won and I gave up and lost most to all interest in soccer, so cannot say anything else about it.
One small victory I have to report however- my dad went from "women look ridiculous when playing soccer" to openly (!!!) watching the women's Cup and women team play and even admits that they now look better than the men. This is HUGE.

I suppose he probably was a better player than he was a person, except when didn’t play properly. ‘The Hand of God’ is an example of this, not trying to sound biased because I’m English.
I will leave it at that.

This is HUGE. Interesting. Maradona played against Germany twice in the World Cup final, 1986 and 1990. He won the first of those finals, and lost the second. I’m not sure how popular he was in England, probably not much. That’s all I’ll say for now.

Diego Maradona was one of the best footballer's this world has ever seen. Full stop. The 'Hand of God' was more the referee/linesman's fault for not spotting the handball and disallowing the 'goal'... I'm glad they didn't see it though as it was damn funny.

It would been funny if it had been disallowed.

I’m not sure how popular he was in England, probably not much. That’s all I’ll say for now. I have no idea why English people are supposedly hating Maradonna? I thought the aim of any game and sport is to enjoy and have fun together? This also means to admire and respect the opponent? Kind of like opposing Klingons going out drinking together after a battle?
Sorry, but I find that attitude bewildering. It is like some old farts in my village telling my brother (who played in the village team) off for refusing to get into a after-game brawl with the opposing village team. He was called "coward" and "soft".
Sorry, but I have no respect and no understanding for things like that.....
EDIT- anyways, even if Maradonna was cheating (which I cannot judge since this is not my field) he did enough to impress my child mind and stay in the memory of a lady without any sense of soccer.
I cannot say I can remember a single English player, apart from that appalling man who was rude and aggressive and looked like a prize boxer. Similar level to the French biting man (I should mention the last times I followed the World Cup was a while ago, so this is already years ago). Those are not advocates for sport. People like that are a disgrace.

Ok, from what I can see, I think it is best that I leave this forum. I’m sorry if my comments on Maradona came across as malicious. This isn’t an excuse, but I have autism and I will sometimes act differently to most people.
Also, I’ve been I’ll at least 4 times in the last 6 months. I never meant to say anything harmful ever on this forum.
Goodbye.

In the slim chance you can still read this- I am sorry you feel that way. I probably misunderstood and you lost me somewhere in the process. I am also socially and mentally diverse, and when writing on a forum, we cannot see each other so reacting to each other is a real challenge. I know you from previous posts, so yes, I do not think what you said was malicious. I am also no soccer expert, I only know very limited number of players and so on, reason is most likely my childhood story- see above. This is the reason we should always talk things through- because we all have our issues and most times, misunderstandings likes these can actually be resolved. It is sad seeing you go. That's all.
