Just wondering how the timeline is explained for David Tennant's 14th Doctor, I read somewhere it carries on from the regeneration. Are we getting stories over the next year that are one long event or multiple stories that are happening over a longer time period, will the TV specials pick up after days, weeks, months from the regeneration?

The first part was accompanied by an article about the comic which explained it’s depicting the first hour of the Fourteenth Doctor’s life.

Based on DWM handling the first hour and the nature of this being a brief incarnation, I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole of Fourteen’s tenure is very much planned out and any gaps are going to be handled by tie-in stories in the lead up and around the time of the 60th. I don’t get the feeling that this is an incarnation where licensees will be given carte blanche access to create stories, particularly with Ncuti’s Fifteen coming immediately after and quite rightly needing to dominate.

I was hoping for some Big Finish adventures, thinking perhaps the comics would offer a hint of the wriggle room available.

Honestly from a business perspective with David being insanely popular actor and Doctor Big Finish would be insane to not create gaps and do more with 14. The bbc should be supportive as they financially have their fingers in the pie so to speak unless of course with Disney involved they could potentially effect any chances of audios

The bbc should be supportive as they financially have their fingers in the pie so to speak unless of course with Disney involved they could potentially effect any chances of audios It wouldn’t be Big Finish or any other licensee’s decision. It would be entirely based on what they’re granted by BBC Studios et al. That isn’t to say we won’t get anything, but this is a brief incarnation made specifically for an anniversary, with a brand new Doctor coming immediately after. All of this coupled with the team up with DWM detailing the first hour of Fourteen’s life does suggest that we may see something more planned out across the different mediums that tells the full story of his tenure. As for David’s popularity, that will always be associated with Ten and his continued era expansion isn’t going anywhere. There’s only one David Tennant and he can only record for one incarnation at a time. If it’s going to be Ten, then that’s no detriment to the output by Tennant, so no impact from a business perspective because Ten very much sells and I suspect will continue to do so.

I’m sure once the dust settles from 2023, something in expanded universe will find ways to insert a new story in Fourteen’s life. I suspect it will be like the Curator, where at first he was quite limited but couple of years later he’s rocking up in UNIT and Eighth Doctor stories.
