So where are we placing this one? No Adric, so I guess it has to be after Earthshock. No Turlough either though, so I guess around about Snakedance. I know Tegan made some references to recent events, but I'm not so familiar with Five as to be able to place them that easily

You'll need a better expert than me to tell you where in relation to all the other BF audios that also go between Arc and Snakedance.

So, before Omega or the Lost Stories? The TARDIS dematerialises and then comes straight back at the end of the story. I think that's where most fifth doctor solo stories go.

I thought that this was an excellent story for Tegan. Janet Fielding gives a really strong performance, we a long way past The Gathering. Giving her some backstory and letting Tegan have a romance was really interesting.
Davison was on fine form as was Sarah Sutton, even though Nyssa didn't get too much to do.

Omega and the Burning Prince occur then and maybe Cuddlesome and The Secret History, I'd guess the 5th Doc Lost stories happen after Waters and before Aquitaine but until Aquitaine is released we can't know for sure.

Well, "the Elite" certainly happens right after "Arc of Infinity", as Tegans having a full blown whinge about the loss of her room.

Well, "the Elite" certainly happens right after "Arc of Infinity", as Tegans having a full blown whinge about the loss of her room. We can only assume she didn't get there when showing Kyle around, or she didn't find it where she expected to, assumed it had moved (she'd be savvy enough to consider it as a possibility) and learned what had happened (her things had gone into storage) at the beginning of The Elite. That whinge got nicely meta, when Tegan commented she'd have to wear her present outfit for weeks (a reference to how characters in the Fifth Doctor era got costumes instead of regular outfits). My head-canon for the audio continuity at least is: Time-Flight (leads into) The Waters of Amsterdam Omega and The Burning Prince take place during Part Four The Elite (leads into) Hexagora (leads into) The Children of Seth - References to The Elite and Hexagora, including a decision Tegan makes in the latter story Aquatine* * Not yet released As for trying to reconcile Waters of Amderdam and The Elite with the novel Fear of the Dark, there are two timelines split off from the end of Arc of Infinity. Timeline A follows the events of Fear of the Dark, but not the events of WoA and the Lost Stories. Timeline 1 follows the events of WoA and the Lost Stories but not Fear of the Dark. Since all those stories never made a significant impact on the internal overall narrative, they are each equally likely but not with each other, and from Snakedance onwards things occurred the same for both timelines. A sort of Schrodinger's Cat if you like, the audios opened the box to find a wet cat and the novel revealed a fearing feline.I'd apologise for trying to reconcile irreconcilable narratives, but then I'm a Doctor Who fan. We look for explanations where none exist.

Greatly enjoyed 'The Waters of Amsterdam' with the Doctor, Tegan and Nyssa. Well-written by Jonny Morris; well-directed by Jamie Anderson and superbly performed by Peter Davison; Sarah Sutton and Janet Fielding with the rest of the cast. I take it that 'Omega' and 'The Burning Prince' took place during the last scene of the story where the Doctor went and came back for Tegan and Nyssa in Amsterdam. Hope to give a full review on this story soon. Tim.

Listened too it last night & thoroughly enjoyed it, a brilliant story by Jonathan Morris that contained some nice twists & Jamie Andersons direction was pacey & never sagged.
Good performances especially from Janet Felding as Tegan who we actually got to hear being a flight attendant.
A great start to 2016 monthly range.
Timelord Rating. 9/10

I've really disliked the last two Fifth Doctor trilogies. Releases like Moonflesh and Mistfall have been that most awful of things in Doctor Who - boring. I can handle bad Who but boring Who? Never.
So very, very happy to say I think this is the best Davison Tardis team story since...Emerald Tiger probably. Tegan is written wonderfully - acidic and sarcastic without just being a one-dimensional moaner. Rembrandt is written almost as a direct contrast to Van Gogh on TV. The "temporal grace is nonsense" idea gets ret-conned into being a classic series idea. All wonderful. The "I'm here to see The Master" line seemed to be a tribute to the similiar line in Enemy Of The World where Troughton mistakes "Disused jetty" for "Disused Yeti".
One issue is that Tegan can't enjoy her BF adventures too much, have a complete 180, or her ultimate ending makes no sense so I was happy she had that line at the end that she wouldn't call what they all do "fun". That was a canny line.
Yeah, this was just solid, solid stuff. I've been on record many times as saying Johnny Morris is really one of the top few writers BF have and it's stories like this one that enforce that.
A fantastic start for the main range in 2016.

Oh, and in the extras I liked Richard James saying "Oh, I've done a Big Finish before, months ago". Little did he know that The Isos Network would be released after Waters Of Amsterdam

It's the Doctor's reaction that really stands out when it's used in Waters of Amsterdam. It's a good thing the tea didn't go on Tegan and her white clothes, or she'd really let at him!

Just finished it and I'd agree with David, easily the best 5th Doctor MR story since The Emerald Tiger. Everyone was on fine form, Morris wrote a cracking script and Anderson keeps the whole thing moving really nicely. If I had one gripe it is that the story is a bit over scored but that isn't a major problem for me. All in all it is a really good start for the year. On to what Bernard & Morris have cooked up for our time travelling trio.

On to what Bernard & Morris have cooked up for our time travelling trio. Don't you mean best story since Fanfare for the Common Men? The continuity-lite was a great aspect, with all the Arc of Infinity stuff in one of Tegan's rants at the start so Johnny Morris could get on with telling his story. The problem with story arcs is that the writer has to incorporate the arc and any developments into their own narrative. When it works, it works and can enhance the individual entries, but when it doesn't work it hinders either the story or the arc and arcs can be dragged out for longer than they should be.
