Question.. I haven't finished Ravenous etc.. Do I need to hear all those before starting on "The Robots"? I have 4 boxsets here so far, haven't started yet..
Thanks,
Nah. Liv Chenka spends a year on Kaldor after she was dropped off by the Doctor is all you need to know.
I am 99.99% sure I have heard that story where 8th and her depart.

I agree with tuigirl. You don't need to have listened to Ravenous to enjoy these.

I agree with everyone above that it isn’t really necessary. Liv Chenka’s Gap Year stands completely on its own.
That said: if you’re really keen to have full context, you’ll only need to listen as far as Ravenous 2.1: Escape from Kaldor. It serves as a soft pilot, introduces Liv’s sister Tula, establishes Kaldor as a slightly heightened version of modern-day-capitalist-Earth, and leads directly into this spinoff.
As a side note: isn’t it startling how much closer to home every Robots story about AI feels today vs, say, one year ago?

Fitting finale for a fantastic series. Although I would have liked a bit more action for the last episode, however, the subterfuge was spot on! And I totally called one thing-
{Spoiler} As soon as I realized the thing about the "human minds in robot bodies" I was pretty sure we would get a "Robot Liv". And we did! This of course opens up some more sequel opportunities.
The performances were fantastic, I especially enjoyed the two-hander second story. Very well made and really kept you guessing.
I also VERY much liked the chance for Liv to have a very personal talk to the Doctor. What a great Doctor / Companion moment!
What else can I say? I loved this series from start to finish. One of the best series BF has done.
Very much worth it if you are into sci-fi thrillers.

Just finished the "The Final Hour". This whole series was great. The Doctor throws in the line that a year on Kaldor is 18 months. I don't know whether we knew that before, but for those who thought too much was happening in 12 months, there we go.
What a treat and the final line of the episode does pose the possibility for more.

Can only echo what has been said already - a fitting end to Liv's time on Kaldor and The Robots.
Would have liked to have seen an extra episode squeezed in to give the series a two hour finale, but that is just me quibbling over a minor detail - cannot fault the ending we were given. Hopefully not the last time we hear the Chenka sisters together, and equally not the last time we hear Nicola Walker and Clare Rushbook working together

A really great set that ended a great series. Given its gap year nature, it couldn't go on forever, but it was really good while it lasted.
Definitely scope for more. I don't think the situation on Kaldor at the end of this series was the same place where we know it ended up according to the 4DA Sons of Kaldor, so there is more has to happen yet on Kaldor, and I'd be up for these stories to be told.
Would be interested to know if Robots was known about when Andrew Smith was writing his 4DA & also how different the original 12 episode version of this would have been to the 18 episode version we ended up with.
Highly recommended.
If you enjoyed this and want more Kaldor, albeit a a completely different take on Kaldor set in a different continuity, then I'd recommend Magic Bullet's Kaldor City series. It's a must if you're a Blake's 7 fan as well.
