I'm wondering, as we come towards 20 years since the Doctor entered the Divergent universe how does it hold up critically. Was there more good than bad, there are 2 stories I've avoided due to poor reviews but everything else I really enjoyed.
Scherzo 10/10 The Natural History Of Fear 8/10 Faith Stealer 9/10 The Last 8/10 Caerdroia 9/10 The Next Life 8/10

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I liked several of the individual stories but the arc as a whole felt a little bit badly-planned: a universe without time but where people talked about things that had happened to them in the past (I get that the universe itself was on a loop but to have characters not recognise what units of Time were was a bit silly)
I really enjoyed Faith Stealer the most (the line where the Doctor describes a tent city full of religious outcasts as a “shantih town” was terrific), but I felt that some of them were just a little too VNA in nature and were there as an excuse to cram the Doctor into a story where they didn’t really fit. Natural History Of Fear was amazing, though, and a great example of a story that can only work on audio.

I love Big Finish when it goes full on weird and surreal. I also love when we get some really emotional scenes that explore the repercussions of the Doctor's choices and the tole this takes on his relationships with his companions. Scherzo has both these qualities, as well as being really creepy too. I'd say it's my favourite of the run and was never going to be topped by anything that followed it.

I agree with shutupbanks. Some great individual stories but the idea of a universe without time never seemed to work for most of it. Scherzo is the exception to that, as is Time Works. The latter was originally supposed to be included in the DU but was left out of it due to it's untimely (he he) conclusion. But it would have fit right in, and is a great story. I never really took to C'Rizz, maybe because his introduction was such a poor story. But I have always appreciated the attempt to give us a truly alien companion.

I'd go further. The concept of things being able to happen in a timeless universe is inherently absurd, so I did my best to ignore it. I wouldn't have bothered with the suggestion at all.
