I'm currently bulking up my DVD collection, I've recently dipped into several 1st Doctor serials for the first time and been pleasantly surprised by how good they are.
The idea of mostly Earth bound stories has put me off in the past but after enjoying other stories that I'd previously avoided I'm looking to bulk up my 3rd Doctor collection. I currently have;
Spearhead from Space, Inferno
Day of the Daleks
The Three Doctors, Carnival of Monsters, Frontier in Space, Planet of the Daleks, The Green Death
The Time Warrior, Death to the Daleks, Invasion of the Dinosaurs, Planet of the Spiders
Recommended remaining Serial advice greatly appreciated.

Looks like you already have plenty of excellent stories to choose from!
Personally, I’d recommend The Silurians and The Claws of Axos myself.

The Daemons for sure. A wonderful folk horror tale for 3 and Jo.

Why build a collection of only 'essential' stories? Isn't it easier to just buy all of season 7, 8, 9, 10 and some of 11 and then have a complete collection! For me the whole Jon Pertwee experience is essential viewing for every Doctor Who fan. Skip nothing.
And this fella agrees with me...

Trust me, I attend to get everything........ eventually. For years I've mostly stuck to the Fourth Doctor and what's considered the greatest hits of Doctors 5, 6 and 7, with a couple of Doctors 1,2 and 3 stories. The trouble with so many serials to choose from is my funds and spare time are limited, so I want to prioritise getting the very best first. Weekends and evenings are generally family and friend time, so it takes me a while to get through my back log. I got through a few first Doctor serials this week as I've been off work with a virus. I'm quite proud of seeing my DVD shelf grow, all the more so as I add the highly regarded serials recommended by my fellow Whovians. In a couple of years, I dare say, I'll have everything I can get my hands on, even the dreaded Twin Dilemma! Ps, I'm only focusing on single serial dvd releases, as I've started my collection now and it doesn't feel right to switch to full seasons. It would likely be easier but I'm stubborn once I've started on something. You're 100 percent correct on needing to enjoy all of Pertwee, legend!

It's a pity that you are not buying the Doctor Who: The Collection Blu-Rays ...you get a full season in one go with loads of lovely extras. (Season 9 has just been released incidentally.) The DVDs are probably cheaper to pick up now though and collecting things one at a time is an enjoyable pastime.

Great Balls of Fire Everyone We disregarded Terror of the Autons Regards mark867 Definitely high on my list. I've just bought Mind of Evil, The Daemons and the Peladon boxset so I will have to wait until my next pay cheque before buying anymore. Terror definitely ticks a lot of essential boxes, First appearance of Jo Grant - tick First appearance of the Master - tick Written by Robert Holmes - tick First appearance of Mike Yates - tick

Just watched Curse of Peladon and Terror of the Autons, next up Mind of Evil. Let the Third Doctor binge commence!
I adore all Doctor Who Classic and Revival but have to say between 1970 (Spearhead from Space) and 1977 (Horror of Fang Rock) the show is absolutely perfect. What follows is still brilliant but that 70s run is wall to wall classic after classic. If I had the time free I'd watch them all in one sitting.

Besides the ones already mentioned, I adore Mind of Evil. Great showcase of Jo and the UNIT family, some nice action scenes, very good Doctor vs. Master scenes and in general just fun. It might not be as deep as Silurians or Green Death, but it certainly makes up for it with entertainment value.
