Anyone want to feel old? Daniel Anthony (Clyde) is only 4 years younger than Tom Baker was when he debuted as The Doctor in S12 and 5 years younger than Eccleston was. He's 8 years older than Matt Smith was when cast.
Yep....we're all VERY OLD!

Bane Uncle? Fair enough.
Sounds like a promising set if only to see how Bane society operates.

I really hope more of these have been planned. I get the impression that it's been pretty successful

I really enjoyed this. My only quibble was I really wanted Luke to be a much more integral part of the proceedings. And candidly I thought/hoped as we proceeded into episode three that we might get the return of Mr Smith . I continue to be confused by Samira’s character. I love the actresses voice in the behind the scenes material. In the actual story she comes across almost as an AI to the point where I was trying to remember if we ever actually met her in the first box set… we do meet her in episode two here so not AI… perhaps I am just reading into her formal ness. Has there been any announcement of future sets? I am ready to buy! lol

I wonder if they will ever bring back Maria to have her meet Rani as she is the only original cast member of the Sarah Jane Adventures to appear in Big Finish
i know there is Sky Smith that could come back but who knows if the actresses will come back

Curious to know what makes you think she comes across like AI?

I suspect we’ll more than likely get another set, so I’m curious which other previous characters from the show they could bring back. Could may well be her if she’s still acting. As for Sky, she was only ever intended to be there for one series (5) and, well, Farewell sort of touches on what happened to her character. Doubt RTD would bring her back, unless he isn’t fussed what the creators choose to do.

Just finished this set. Whereas the first one seemed to be slowly edging this spin-off away from SJA-rebooted, this one pitches it right back there. Even giving Rani her own Sladen-patented “end of series monologue on life on Earth being an adventure too”. The nostalgia feels thicker, in part because of Wormwood’s return and also in part because we get two stories back to back which lay on the nostalgia for SJA quite thickly. The third does used it to make more of a point though, which worked nicely. The second did feel like the plot bent over backwards to get to the continuity reference parade however.
Wormwood’s return did work rather nicely. Her connection to Luke is addressed but it’s not dwelt on, which means we happily don’t get a redux of Enemy of the Bane. Bond gets some nice material working on bending Clyde and Rani to her will, and they even tantalise us with inching Rani and Clyde’s unsaid feelings forward a little.
All in all; it’s a nice boxset which just seems a bit afraid to escape the pull of SJA’s legacy. I think it and the previous set do serve as a nice foundation for taking the characters forward, but maybe dial back the references for the old series a tad.

I just turned the same age as William Hartnell and Peter Capaldi were when they started. I don't look it.

I really wasn’t keen on this one at all, I’m afraid.
Time Schisms! is built on a divide between Rani & Luke that never feels like it’s something that’s ever going to affect their relationship. We’ve not got enough of Luke working for UNIT for his stance to ever really matter. It doesn’t help that Luke is barely in the story and Tommy Knight’s performance is the very definition of phoning it in. Major Hadley is an irritating character too.
The Star-Crossed Division is poor and one of my least favourite Big Finish listens, at least for a long while. You’d be forgiven for thinking it was written by AI following a quick scrape of The Sarah Jane Adventures articles on TARDIS Wiki. It’s a series of events directly lifted from other stories and thinks it’s perfectly fine in doing so by referencing them. The resolution with Rani & Clyde referencing random SJA events was unintentionally hilarious; neither actor could sell it. The Bane involvement comes out of absolutely nowhere without any sort of logic or buildup. And yet the most frustrating thing for me is that Rani’s characterisation is a complete disservice to her. It runs into the same issues as the first set where they seem to omit that the gang had another 10 years with Sarah Jane following Series 5; they’re fully grown adults. Sarah has no responsibility for them or any control over whether they decide to get involved in events or not. Similarly they seem to forget that it’s been a few years since Sarah Jane died and Rani’s actually developed a career of her own in Sarah’s footsteps; none of the events of these audios are brand new situations for her.
The Ghost of Bannerman Road is all over the place. Mrs Wormwood is very underused and of all the returning villains she doesn’t seem the most appropriate for how she’s used in the story. Samantha Bond is brilliant, mind. Luke is only in a couple of scenes and no encounter with Wormwood seems a glaring omission. The story seems to randomly flit from The Tower of London to Bannerman Road without any passing of time or indication of travel. And the Rani & Clyde romance feels really dumbed down and childish, which The Sarah Jane Adventures never did the former and very rarely the latter, which made it so special. Again, they seem to forget the passing of time and have them interact like they’re teenagers, not grown adults who are twice as old as they were on screen.
It’s been a really strange duo of sets that struggle to have an identity. It doesn’t know if it’s The Sarah Jane Adventures or something new. The characterisation of its leads is reductive and the stories themselves aren’t particularly enjoyable. A real miss.

I would say that this set was a slight let down from the previous one (which I really enjoyed).
Anjili and Daniel give great, realistic performances. Samantha Bond is great but definitely underused. It's unfortunately Tommy that let's it down - I don't know how much acting or audio work he's done but he did not come across as the Luke Smith I remember and didn't sound very natural at all.
I would be really keen for more releases in future but I think they need to think about the stories being told - it should take advantage of Rani being a journalist/podcaster. The Witching Tree from the first set was the strongest story for this reason.

Just finished this set. I listened to both sets over the past few weeks rotating with other audios. It was a nice call back. The Ghost of Bannerman Road had some points that gave me a nervous stomach listening to the uncomfortableness of Clyde and Rani at times, which I'm sure is the point. Wormwood was quite nasty there manipulating Clyde. I liked Rani's solution. I'm very glad both these sets moved the characters close to the actors' current ages and progressed their stories. Overall the 3 stories were nice fun. Looking forward to more.
