Well, it's up. Since there's no real reason it's in the S14 thread, it's the classic series after all. We may as well have a new thread. It's new edits of 6 classic stories. It uses a new intro, not the era specific Who one, while the closing credits are entirely new with music by Sam Watts. The stories feature two classic era actors, in character, finding themselves on a "Remembering TARDIS"- essentially where the TARDIS stores memories. And they relive one for us. The relevant story then fades in and out, no hard edits for the credits- we go from the new scenes to the story then back to the new scenes. So, a framing device minisode. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/p0gmj4tn/tales-of-the-tardis

Earthshock
It's a much lighter reunuion. hugs and "missed yous" (with a few barbs still) than expected from Tegan's issues with The Doctor last year but when they sit down to tell their story Davison suggests the story they tell is the day they met the Cybermen. Tegan isn't happy at reliving that. Cut to Earthshock. At the end we go from a quick shot of the broken badge at the end to a dissolve The Doctor holding one. They take a moment to make fun of Adric's faults one last time while Tegan says "he loved you., you know.", for The Doctor to reply "I know that now.." Lovely stuff. Tegan tells The Doctor how she was lost for a while, but became an environmental campaigner. Spiky and fun but with sadness and remorse. This is Tegan and The Fifth Doctor to a T.

The Mind Robber
Zoe and Jamie now remember each other because this TARDIS gave them their stolen memories back, they had indeed forgotten each other and the adventures. After expressing anger at the Timelords for that theft, there's a gorgeous moment when Jamie finds he has a recorder, and the music swells. He's been busy - 5 daughters and 19 grandkids. Zoe has a son, she called him James and never realised why till now. Zoe married an Australian man, and is now President (third term). Lovely moment after the adventure where they wish Victoria has had a lovely life - and they regain their memories for good.

3 - Vengance On Varos
Well, Sixie's old coat IS there, on a peg but he's rather more dapper than he ever was on TV! He and Peri hug when she arrives (he's already there, reading - first one of the characters in these that hasn't just manifested). He says he's gotten "older, bigger and beardier" but has heard songs of Peri, the Warrior Queen from as far as the outer ring of The Madusa Cascade. Peri never thought she'd see The Doctor again (sorry Big Finish!). Peri says how she got back to Earth in the 21st century and was sad as it felt like Varos. The Doctor remarks "Sil would love it". At the end, The Doctor and Peri decide to travel again together! (hello again Big Finish!)

4 - The Three Doctors - Lovely bit of farce to kick off. Clyde and Jo remember each other and explore this "kind of TARDIS" - Jo is amazed to find a whole cache of sonic screwdrivers from across the show's history and has a go with one...well, the proverbial kicks off! Of course, they mention Sarah Jane. Clyde's sorry to hear Cliff died. Clyde is now a comic book writer. Luke is working for UNIT, Rani is "marching around telling everyone how much danger we're in with climate change and exposing corporations" Jo says "she's so like Sarah Jane.." - which ties in well enough to Big Finish. Jo says she loved her Doctor but not romantically, but more like how Clyde loved Sarah Jane. Jo says she can tell he's in love with Rani, and he admits it "because we're not Time Lords and life is short". Really beautiful ending. When Jo goes back to where the sonics were...the blue crystal from Metebelis is there. She looks up and sees Cliff who says "hello Jo..". A lovely tribute to Stewart Bevan there.

5 - The Time Meddler
Vicki arrives and expects to see The Doctor and calls for him, but turns round and bumps into Steven. Massive hug which with the music made me quite emotional. Vicki is now a farmer in the hills. Both have grandchildren but Steven says he's over the moon "to now have his little sister back.." - emotional again! Peter Purves and Maureen's chemistry is still there.
Steven wonders if its a trap (first time in these anyone has done so!) as "Could you see The Doctor wearing THIS?" and holding Colin's coat. 😛 It makes sense since, for them, there was ONE Doctor. Vicki is glad she became the grandaughter he lost. (Susan's absence makes me REALLY think she could be in the 60th...). Steven said The Doctor never stopped talking of Vicki. As they both make a wish they could see The Doctor one last time...a familiar chuckle is heard, and Vicki smiles...her Doctor is back. Credits.
GORGEOUS.

6 - The Curse Of Fenric
Ace arrives and puts on The Doctor's hat which she finds on the console. Then finds her iconic bat. "That Dalek got quite a beating if I rrrrremember rrrrright". Cue "PROFESSOR!" and a big hug.
He, of course, takes his hat back! Ace says the last time she saw him, he was a hologram. SO, these are post-Power Of The Doctor, post-Jodie. And that's why Tegan and Davison were on better terms, and he knew she needed to talk about Adric back in Earthshock. Ace wonders The Doctor got old. "Time streams are funny things..in some I regenerate, in some, I don't. It's all a matter of perspective" Suitably cryptic for him!
The Doctor says this is a place to remember..and confront difficult truths. Ace says she sometimes wishes she stayed forever and asks if he ever thought about her. Every day, he replies. Ace doesn't want to remember too much, like the events of Fenric...The Doctor (ever her kinda sinister social worker) tells her she should as "our pain comes to define us, as well as the joy..."
The Doctor admits he should have talked to Ace more about how she felt. That he used her, manipulated her and said it was no wonder she left. The day Ace left was a busy one...The Rani was up to her old tricks! Ace went to visit her Nan from Fenric every week for years, never telling her who she was.
The Doctor tells Ace he has a secret for her - "the best is yet to come!" (Spinoff confirmed?) While Ace says she always loved him as the Dad she never had and still does. He tells her the same and that they were a "wicked" team. Ace delivers the closing speech from Survival, suggesting "one more trip". Off they go...but not before Sylv plays....the spoons.

How long does each episode go for? Lovely synopsis for all - you can tell there is so much emotion in the dialogue . About 4 mins at the start then same at the end. That's all 6. Lovely stuff and very emotional in places. A real treat for the 60th. I'm in little doubt after it that Ace WILL be back on TV and so will Susan (if only because her absence here...she's not even mentioned) would be weird if she didn't show up in the specials or the likes, now. What a heartwarming way to kick off anniversary month!

Absolutely wonderful stuff. Better than I thought they’d be (not that I thought they’d be crap!), much more akin to the minisodes we get in The Collection than recaps and linking elements of the stories they bookend. I think the Earthshock & Curse of Fenric ones were my favourites. I agree that Ace is pretty much having some involvement in a spin-off and that Susan seems a shoe-in for the 60th (Wild Blue Yonder is very secretive!).
Would love a second batch and for that to extend to other eras; Matt would excel at this type of framing device and seems perfectly suited to his tenure.

These were lovely, so good to see the old faces back together again. Not just for a quick few words either - there's comedy, drama and a lot of pathos in there too. The music was a bit heavy-handed though - Murray's work, I wonder? The words alone were enough to convey the emotion. I'm also not sure how I feel about the Fifth Doctor's era continually being defined by Adric's death; Adric was a difficult character to like a lot of the time, and there was so much else to the Fifth Doctor and his friends. Nit-picking though, really. This is terrific, heart-warming stuff.

RTD in the new SFX mag, "There are bigger plans behind this that we can't talk about yet. Eventually Tales Of The TARDIS will begin to make more sense as the series next year unfolds, you will see.

3 - Vengance On Varos Peri never thought she'd see The Doctor again (sorry Big Finish!). Peri says how she got back to Earth in the 21st century and was sad as it felt like Varos. The Doctor remarks "Sil would love it". At the end, The Doctor and Peri decide to travel again together! (hello again Big Finish!) ROFL. WHICH version of Peri are we talking about now? Or Sixie for that matter!

My reaction to them (I watched then in Companion order)
1 got a wistful smile, 2, 6 and 7 got a punch in the air, for 5 I felt like needing a drink and for 3 I had something in the corner of my eye

To be fair, if you really wanted to try and make it fit, you could argue that this takes place after Sixie drops older Peri off. But there's also multiple different Peris around too. FWIW, I thought these were cute - The Three Doctors and The Curse of Fenric being my favourite ones of the bunch.
