The “Moffat can’t write women” criticism is funny because… of course he can write women because he has, if people were being realistic, the criticism would be “Moffat doesn’t write women the way I want them to be written”. Also whilst people use the obvious examples against him (River, Tasha Lem, Irene Adler), they just conveniently ignore the examples that don’t fit the mold like Nancy, Reinette, Sally Sparrow, Miss Evangelista, Lorna Bucket, Liz 10, Lynda Day, etc.

The whole "Moffat can't write women" criticism really feels so disingenuous to me. I don't deny that he has his problems as a writer, but the criticism is almost always coming from the angle of "here's why RTD is the best showrunner" and hardly ever a "here's where Moffat's faults are" angle.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

It was criticism of his tenure as showrunner. Mysteriously, nobody seemed to have an issue when he was just writing episodes under RTD.

Yeah, it always felt like something that people who couldn’t get over losing RTD and Tennant said to justify hating on Moffat and then it’s like it became accepted as the truth. Moffat has his faults, sure, and some of his female characters are similar but to say that he can’t write women at all or all of his female characters are the same is nonsense IMO.

I started with Moffat and I still vehemently hate the way he writes women. I hated it then and I hate it now. It's not just 'oh I miss RTD' as I wasn't there to miss RTD. I legit have major issues with his over reliance of stock characters and his extremely small pool of tropes that he draws from for his women, and yes I include more popular ones like Sally and Reinette in that criticism.

I hate Girl in the Fireplace.
I think it's Ten's worst episode.

I was more than happy to see the back of RTD & Tennant.
