I'll post up my thoughts shortly, but I must say: no next time trailer? Guess Wild Blue Yonder and its guest stars really will be a mindblower, if RTD's keeping his cards that close to the chest and not giving anything away.

The preview is lready posted above ^
I don't think "The Boss" is The Toymaker. Working with The Meep seems way too low scale for a being like him. Thoughts? I mean, he's an eternal deity - a God, a Celestial. The Meep talked like it was a crime ring.
I'd guess it's setting up something for Ncuti's era. Remember how early Russell put Torchwood and Saxon references in.

I dunno, I think a psychadelic sun has the right kind of colours for the Toymaker and not (say) for a computer at a Welsh mine.

Well... that was fun! Happily, I think it realised the plot of The Star Beast well and I loved, loved the Meep. I thought the two main additions (Shirley and Rose) were fantastic and fit in really well (although I hope the addition of Shirley doesn't mean that Osgood is no longer going to be a part of the UNIT team...) I do have a few little niggles - I thought both the resolution to the Meep plot and the metacrisis weren't great - RTD still hasn't really got the hang of resolutions since his first era, unfortunately. I thought the metacrisis felt like it was resolved far too easily considering how much of a major thing it is. Also... I thought it was very convenient that half of London was being destroyed until the ship began to reverse and somehow all the destruction was also reversed, again very RTD. I'm not too worried about the lack of Wilf - from what I remember, what we saw Bernard shooting seemed to be with Tennant, Tate and NPH which indicates that he'll be around for the third episode at least. So yeah... good start to the new era. EDIT: Also, for someone who was so cautious that he didn't have Fourteen appear in Thirteen's clothes and the whole Davros thing, featuring a trans character's deadname perhaps was not the best decision - mainly because I can see that the bigots are going to weaponise that now.

Did anyone else catch the early Donna line about not trusting a man with a goatee?
Perhaps foreshadowing The Master?

Oh also... did they hint that Ten and Donna had an off-screen adventure with the Cybermen? If so, BF are probably rubbing their hands right now...

Watched the 30minute Unleashed (is this available overseas?) - Catherine said the germ of the return came from the Tweetalong of her Christmas special and RTD said to her he loved writing for Ten and Donna and would she do it again, she said likewise to David...and yeah. It all rolled on. Lovely to see Pat Mills and Dave Gibbons meet Tennant and him fanboying out. Bit of an odd line...at home Georgia Moffat asked Tennant "can you still do the Doctor's voice?" he says. Umm..you do BF with him, Georgia! It's a more...chaotic, all over the place show than Confidential used to be. That would often focus on one thing in depth. This is a bit more all over the place but hey, with such a short era, best to do that maybe.

So overall that was a standard RTD era episode of Doctor Who for better or worse, with a bigger budget which I guess is what fans want. It was fine. Tennant was basically 10, nothing of note to make him different. & then we have Murray ‘THIS IS THE EXCITING BIT THIS IS THE SAD BIT’ Gold. Has he got worse? It felt like every single second was scored. On the other hand the Meep was really good, Jacqueline King was brilliant as Sylvia, a real highlight every time she was on screen. The scene of Donna regaining her memory was great & the resolution to the Doctor Donna was lovely. Rose is definitely a character I want to see more of. The new TARDIS is beautiful a truly cinematic version but still retains a classic feel. Next week's episode is the one I'm most intrigued by.

No-one's mentioned it yet, but that opening scene was a hell of a bold way to start a new era. Totally smashing the fourth wall with The Doctor and Donna talking straight to camera as though narrating their own lives. RTD was never a very meta writer. Bit surprised he did that so overtly.
Is the new theme and credit sequence for Ncuti or just the specials? Notable that RTD, like Chibnall, ditched the face in the credits. Funny some showrunners love it, some think it's stupid!

Tennant was far less manic then he was as 10 and the music was better timed and less intrusive (not perfect but better) otherwise agreed. Regards mark687

Regards mark687 Yep, he's matured his voice (which is a choice, his BF Tenth Doctor still sounds the same) to be more gravelly, and his overall demeanour felt very much like if that same incarnation had the time to age. And got his wish when he said "I don't want to go". But as RTD said in Unleashed, it's a story over 3 episodes, so we'll see what and why for sure has caused it all. I've got more than a few friends on socials saying they watched, who haven't tuned in for anything since maybe early Matt era bar the 50th. Bringing this pairing back to pick up the lost audience really does seem to be a very savvy move, and a way to do something big for the 60th and thus give Ncuti every advantage in passing the baton, in a way he wouldn't have had if it went from Power Of The Doctor straight in.

A solid 8/10 from me. Quite interesting to see RTD bring back the militarized UNIT after Moffat and Chibnall shifted away from that. Haven't seen this mentioned yet but Donna knew about the 13th Doctor. Donna directly acknowledged that The Doctor was previously a woman. That's very interesting because as far as we knew Donna had zero contact with any incarnations post 10.

Opening with The Doctor talking outside the story, straight to camera is a very different way of going about it for the show. And certainly not standard RTD storytelling that you referenced above.

I caught that too I took it to mean that somehow Donna's genetic memory had stayed linked to the Doctor's. Regards mark687
