Oh this is great news! I'd worried that the series had come to an end. Three terrific writers involved too - nice to see Andy Lane and Gary Russell back in the fold.
'And why is an old nemesis lurking in the shadows?' That's a question I'm looking forward to the answer to!

I HATED Tarrant as a boy. Blake leaving was fine as it was better as Avon's 7 anyway but bringing in Steven to look like a Blake clone but who was 20 years younger annoyed me. Felt like a step back, but he won me over. He wasn't the hero and didnt take over from Avon but instead added another shade of grey to the show.
Sad that we lost so many of the cast now. B7 without Gareth, Paul or Jaqueline is a much harder sell for me especially as some of the subsequent spinoffs Big Finish have done have been quite poor but I will give a check to reviews on this.

Which Blake's 7 releases didn't you rate, Andy? Personally, I wasn't so keen on some of the Cally and Jenna ones; I wish BF had continued with the Avalon spin-off, and had her meet up with various characters from the show.

The Clone Masters, Allies And Enemies - not good. Felt very much like trying painfully hard to find a way to do "real" B7 but without all the main ingredients. Even the Bayban box felt like a gimmick because they work with Colin already and was nothing like the Bayban on telly. I dont think there is an easy way to move ahead when the 3 main stars die so quickly. But moving post Blake or with the Avalon story - an Andor to B7s Star Wars - would be best. Big Finish have not thought about recasts but it is very much like we have.....a show set about the time of Star Trek TOS, its on the Enterprise - but we dont have Kirk, Spock and McCoy. At that point I think you need to recast, cancel it all or move far away from the story (Blake's 7: TNG?).

I especially agree with your point about it being difficult to move ahead when 3 main stars are no longer with us. My thoughts on recasts tend to be negative, and then BF recast some of their Doctors and companions and they're great! So perhaps that is the way forward. I was afraid Blake's 7 under BF was going to turn into the Cally and Jenna show, much as Survivors became entirely about Abby and Jenny, but I'm glad we're hearing more fromn Tarrant. These box sets have more of an 'event release' about them than a continuing series, which is why I would have liked Avalon to continue. We'll see how it goes!

I would guess B7 is a strict licence to have. We know the Nation estate is and the Series D side being off-limits mostly, shows that from the Boucher too. They did do those BBC B7 reimagined audios with Derek Riddell as Blake. The Rebellion Reborn which worked in places but flopped in others. Then they did sequels to that which had "real" B7 cast alongside newbies. We had Michael Keating alongside Benedict Cumberbatch! Can you imagine him doing B7 audios now??

I started listening to those reimagined audios and couldn't get into them for some reason. Perhaps I should! They certainly had a good cast.
For my reservations, I'm glad B7 are continuing with Blake's 7. I'm not sure where they will go from here though. Avon, Servalan and Blake (and Travis 1) were so integral to the stories, they leave the biggest gap. Perhaps more Liberator Chronicles styled stories, perhaps featuring tales from non-regulars? It's a difficult situation.

I agree with much of the sentiment in this conversation.
I appreciate that BF will want to make the most of the cast they have (especially after so many sad losses) and that it must be a tricky balancing act. Broadly, though, I think the “Worlds” range is the wrong place to do that. It promises to expand the universe, but in keeping it tethered to the same 2-3 people, only makes it feel smaller. It’s not quite in the spirit of Blake’s 7: a show that routinely tossed in weird new lore, backstory and big offscreen events you would never hear about again, giving the sense of following small people in a big galaxy.
For this reason, I like that the Tarrant box set is more direct in its intentions, making it explicitly about the man and not shoehorning him into a different premise. As mentioned elsewhere, I would have been all-in on the Cally & Jenna box sets if they’d just called it “Cally & Jenna”.
And yes, it bears repeating: more Avalon please.
