Lisa Bowerman returns as the 26th-century archaeologist for this eighth series of The New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield. Joining her throughout the eight episodes are Nickolas Grace (Brideshead Revisited, Robin of Sherwood) as Secretary Pym and acclaimed theatre actor Niamh Cusack as the Oldest.
The Eternity Club comprises four full-cast audio drama releases, each including two half-hour episodes:
The Armageddon Chair / Triumph of the Drahvin by James Goss (due for release in September 2024) Rhubarb / Please Retain Your Ticket for the Cloakroom by Tim Foley (due for release in October 2024) The Terrible Shame of a Tree / Mr Pym has an Adventure by James Goss (due for release in November 2024) Sanctuary / Liturgy of Death by Tim Foley (due for release in December 2024)
**Please note: The collectors' edition CDs are strictly limited to 1,000 copies**
"Big Finish executive producer Jason Haigh-Ellery said: “The story of Bernice Summerfield continues, though there’s one very important person missing. David Warner had become an integral and much-loved part of the series and a great friend to us at Big Finish, and we were all terribly upset by his passing in July 2022.
“After discussing the future of the range with Lisa Bowerman, we’ve decided that The New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield should carry on, and James Goss and Tim Foley have done a brilliant job of creating an exciting new world for Benny to explore.”

Lisa Bowerman IS Big Finish!
& The Oldest. A future version of the Doctor? Too obvious?

Happy to have more Benny stories! But another set of pricy 60 min individual releases (that probably were a boxset at some point) and a very limited printing does rub me up the wrong way a bit :')

Boxset era is truly waning then. Long live monthly release schedules.
Sounds like Benny’s future is in safe hands. I think I’ll wait on more info before bundling but a promising premise.

Honestly im kinda curious if this release is going to actually sell well given that the previous bernice releases had both McCoy and Warner Doctors to help generate sales especially if its limited to only 1,000 and the fact they went to monthly range instead of boxset just saddens me
a big pass for me im happy to have ended the range with Vol 7

Interesting that we seem to be moving away from boxsets lately…
Still, more Benny is always welcome. Will definitely be preordering.

It in interesting that each monthly release is two half-hour episodes by the same writer (Goss or Foley).
The bundle is #32 for all four releases or $40.67 at the moment.
Blood and Steel was $34.47 for 4 adventures (currently listed as $38.12) in 2022. Duration listed was 285 minutes. 45 minutes more, but that might be the BTS material.
Lost in Translation is currently $38.17, but I preordered it for $19.99 (similar to most other digital box sets in 2020). It was 267 minutes.
Big Finish is getting more expensive, but that is not news. I still will be preordering.

The RRP of the most recent set ( Blood & Steel) is £34.99 for the CD and £29.99 for the download. The Eternity Club can be pre-ordered for £32 download bundle or £40 CD bundle. However, you get 4 covers instead of 1, and individual cases for each CD. It's worth noting that the £8.99/£10.99 releases don't ever increase in price (see the Torchwood range), so I don't think this is necessarily a bad deal. Plus, it means listeners can pre-order each month rather than having to pay all in one go - also leaving the door open for people not to commit to the whole series if they don't like the first disc. Edit: Also, back in March 2004 when Gallifrey started, it was priced at £9.99 for a single-disc release. The bundle of the four first episodes was £35. Accounting for inflation, that would be £17.16 per CD or £60.13 for the bundle these days, so I really don't think £10.99 / £40 is as bad as people are making out.

Monthly Benny releases really is back to the future (and the past, and all the bits in between you can get your trowel into.) On the much-discussed subject of cost, I'm too young (in listening terms!) to remember what the Benny stories sold for when they were monthly adventures the last time but I'll bet that, allowing for inflation, it wasn't much different to the newly announced prices, maybe more.
Turning to more important matters - yay, Benny is back! And the new scenario sounds a good one. BF were going to have to do something both different and first-class to follow the outstanding volumes of Benny and David Warner's brilliant Unbound Third Doctor (especially after the intense 'Blood and Steel'), so short stories with - judging by their titles - a lighter tone and some familiar aliens thrown in seems a good variation on a theme of Benny.

Speaking personally, I don't begrudge BF doing a price rise. Admittedly, I am in the fortunate position that I can afford to pay a little bit more and given how inflation has spiralled in recent years I don't think it's unreasonable for BF to put up costs. It would be the physical storage aspect of 4 individual CDs that I have the biggest problem with (not to mention the environmental impact of additional plastic, packaging, postage, etc.)

Yes, the main upside to the boxsets - especially the fatbox ones - was their space- and resource-saving nature, so this seems like a slightly backwards step. But on the whole I like the idea of monthly releases. I’m wondering if this is the general way forward - outside of the main Who boxes, there’ll just be a couple of single disc releases a month, making it a steady stream of more individually cheaper releases rather than a barrage of boxes.
Anyway, this was an instabuy for me. More Benny is always welcome.

I somehow missed this news until today. Not sure how I feel about NABS plodding on ahead without David Warner (beyond, you know, still just kinda gutted) but Lisa Bowerman is GOAT so I'll definitely be picking it up just to see.

I like the sound of this range a lot. Fully committing to exploring a new world and toying with familiar species but in new ways. All in all I think I’ll be picking up the bundle.

The more I think about it, the structure of this just feels like an old Benny series, doesn’t it? I’m guessing the New Adventures of range sold well enough for them to keep the name rather than rebranding.
Coupled with Dark Gallifrey, which I noticed comes out directly before this series, we’re getting seven hours of Benny this year, which might be the most we’ve had since the 2CD sets of her very first series. I wonder if there’s intended to be a through line for her in this.

So more like 9-10 hours of Benny this year. You love to see it.

I was thinking just of Benny as lead, but you’re right! (Was also trying to forget The Last Day haha)
