Bloody loved part two. I have to say I'm really impressed with this new range so far. I don't know about you but the ominous, gothic atmosphere heavily reminds me of the Hinchcliffe era. Tim Foley has written some brilliant stuff as of late in my opinion. The cast is excellent and the soundtrack is terrific as well. I can't wait to hear how it all concludes in part 3, this is one of my favorite audios of 2024 along with The Dream Team, Sontarans vs Rutans and Victory of the Doctor.

I do think Morbius returning after 2 discs of a 3 disc set named for him is a bit late. I liked this but Im not sure why Gallifrey is even in the title - could be Karn Konundrums and not make any difference. I hope theres more to it than "each is about an evil Timelord" as that makes the ones about Eleven and The Master even less exciting since theyve been done so much.
But theres a lovely bleak tone. This has an aspect that drips of being before our time with Who, before The Doctor (Timeless Child aside), before the TV show. It's a historical for the Timelords which is something the novels would do but Big Finish hasnt done much.
So yeah, really liking the Morbius aspect..not sure about the Dark Gallifrey part.

I didn't think the first part was as great as most of you so I went back and listened to parts 1 and 2 together and I have to admit, it's very, very good. Once I got over the pirate aspect, it all came together for me. You see, I'm not a huge fan of pirate stories, although I've liked a few. And the idea of a society that has already spawned Rasillon, time travel, regeneration among other things riding around in the vortex in ships reminiscent of 18th c. sailing vessels and the crew acting like pirates, well this was hard for me to swallow. So, being unable to wrap my head around that premise derailed my enjoyment of the entire story. And while the above premise is still a little ludicrous for my taste, knowing the setting going in this time allowed me to put it to the side and just listen. And it was worth it.

I don't envision them as pirates, more like the navy maybe during Napoleonic times, things like the movie Master and Commander.

Though pirates were not very much like their pop culture depiction and would be more like a regular navy, this dynamic for Morbius is clearly something you could see under Nelson.

While I feel it's unfair for me to judge this story until I've heard all three parts, so far so good. It took me a while to warm to the concept of a sailing ship in the vortex, it is admittedly very Doctor Who. Also, I'd say that this set of episodes has earned the Dark Gallifrey title given the wealth of Gallifrey-related worldbuilding in these stores.
{Cameos} I suspect the appearance of the Eleven sets up his/the collective's set of stories. Based on what he said, he may be trying to find out or undo the cause of his regenerative dissonance. Also, I didn't expect this story to have the secret origin of the Collective.
I might be crazy, but I think the man in the vortex that Gilda saw is the Eric Roberts version of the Master. She said "no man can survive" in the vortex but we know from The Diary of River Song and Master! that he has survived.

I imagine for a trilogy, the difficult bit is the middle episode. Things have been established, but we have to wait till the final part to get any kind of closure. No such problem here, with plenty going on, but most of all the beautifully realised, thickly spread atmospherics of this tale, of Morbius's plight.
There is, as in episode one, the flavour of various horror classics added here, which enriches it no end. It really is a triumph for Big Finish and I can't wait to hear what else Tim Foley has in store for us.
The rest of the range will be interesting. It's possible that Morbius might be the least explored character to feature in this epic, which is to his advantage (and ours) because his is a comparatively blank slate and the writer's imagination can go to town with him - as it has here, with terrific results.
Loved this to bits.
