The Death and Life of River Series 1 Last Words Aug 2024

I feel the same. I didn't think that previous post library story was that great that you could do a three box set range out of it (if that's what this is).

The premise of this first set isn't gripping me but Rob Valentine is a cracking writer and further details may sway me. Right now though, this is an easy skip.

My sentiments to a T.

The story must be really bloody good to justify messing with River's final end like this.

Robert Valentine is an amazing writer as well, so an entire set to himself should be good. gonna wait and see for more story details.

Not really sure they’re comparable. Bringing her back in The Name of the Doctor post-Library served a few purposes. The first being it was linked to the dream-esque conference call. The second that her recalling what the Doctor did to give her “life” post-Library is what encourages Clara to jump into his time stream. And lastly, it was that extra bit of closure for both the Doctor and River that they never got due to their conflicting timelines. Effectively a one-off that served the story at hand and them as characters.

The Death and Life of River Song is the creation of a new range featuring River post-Library seemingly without any particular reason. It could be that they’re not all post-Library, but the name of the range suggests that it’ll be commonplace, and the article doesn’t justify why they’ve done this. So far, it just comes across as them wanting to reboot the range, which is fine in itself, but to try and differentiate it they’ve made a decision to place them post-Library for no particular reason. It could emerge that there’s a perfectly reasonable justification for it, but given the omission in the news article, and the fact they’ve already done this in Firewall, I’d assume not.

I’m not inherently against post-Library stories, as I’ve justified The Name of the Doctor above, and it’s clear that she does go on to live a life as shown in Forest of the Dead, but it needs a bloody good reason to do so. This isn’t it. At least not currently.

Honestly I saw it coming when Vol 10 was announced
Honestly not sure what the point is as they could have very easily continued with the diary of river song range as there was heaps of unexplored character journeys for River for example her having adventures with her grandfather Brian Williams (Mark Williams did work for big finish in the past)
Or even stories with Rory exploring the father daughter dynamic

I mean what can they really do with the reboot anyway unless it’s a set up for her to meet future doctors beyond Capaldi (if that’s the case good luck I ain’t buying a 13/River Boxset under any circumstances)

So I just did a price check. Just to buy #1 works out to AUST $78.69.

That's an increase of easily $10-$20 straight up..

So it will be cheaper overall to bundle pre order even without knowing any information about the future releases.

HHMM..

So because sales drop off for a range BFs solution is to carry on the range under a different title. Not think maybe this concept has come to its natural endpoint.

Also the difference with this when compared to different origins for the Daleks as an example mentioned is that River's end had an emotional resonance now under cut by her just coming back in another body. She's bound to end up meeting Doctors & other well known characters again, BF can't help themselves.

Given his obsession with David Tennant & what he did with 10th Doctor I agree with you.
